The Coast to Coast ride (usually early March) has been replaced with the VeloAdelaide Ride on March 18th, 2012.
The route is a "loop ride" start/finish in the city and goes up the freeway (actually on the freeway) thru the tunnels to Crafers and then some options thru the hills before coming down Montacute.
Sad to see Coast to Coast go as the route Victor was always nice. Like the idea of riding thru the Heysen Tunnel but it covers similar territory to the Ride Like Crazy, which is only 2 months earlier.
What do you think?

Permalink Reply by Simon Victor YOUNG on October 24, 2011 at 14:01 I think you will find a combination of ever expanding costs of putting on the event, coordination of resources over a longer distance, and the constant number of participants; ie not increasing 10-15% per season as predicted.
Sadly this is one of the only community events in my opinion worthy of a crack, besides the GS series.
I will discuss with my wife, who is the marketing guru for St Vinnies SA, and see if they are possible sponsors? We may just form a breakaway ride?????
VeloAdelaide? who's idea is this?
Hi all,
I agree with Dahondude!
What are BikeSA doing, the coast to coast is for the Smith Family and supported the Smith Family and all families and their children and the disadvantaged families out there! Why is it going, there are a lot of riders who did this ride including me!
Bike SA - You say GET ON YOUR BIKE! Well, why are you getting rid of the best ride coast to coast everyone enjoys!
It brings people from all walks of life to this ride including me and I was looking forward to doing it again!
Come on Bike SA - Bring it back on the calendar! Put it back on the calendar for the sake of the Smith Family and its supporters and riders and all the sponsors as well!
Um! The Coast to Coast is a magnificent ride for all!
What are you going to replace it with besides the one already mentioned - Why not have a ride organised around adelaide if this one is no more!
A challenging one from Norwood to the Outer Harbor down to Glenelg and back or vide Main North Rd Grand Junction Road!
Come On Bike SA - You tell us to get on our bike and what about the calendar of rides!
Permalink Reply by Patrick O'Kane on October 25, 2011 at 17:10 It would appear The Smith Family are onboard with the replacement ride, their logo is on the website and riders can be sponsored to raise funds.
Still think it's a big mistake by Bike SA though
I plan to ride the ye olde C2C route around march unnasstisted, i dont need sponsors, i dont need a sag wagon, nope..this will be for me, my symbolic protest ride against the mishandling of such an event and the topsy turvy nature of the nature of these unforseen events...i for 1 have never (ever, ever, ever, ever, etc)done the coast to coast, which almost brings me to tears, i really wanted too, and that means i wont get a cool jersey even if i do the ride this march(imagine the collectible nature now, for those jerseys? anyone?). Well if anyones interested in joining me, or already are doing it, lets blimen well do it- no insurance needed because its merely a symbolic ride, i am creating an event nor should anyone else...just ride and follow others for a nice ride. Thats my 50 cents.
What about a maccas? Im far to skinny for that pea and straw food...
Hi,
I have been told by a reliable source that was at a criterium that the Smith Family are in support of the Coast to Coast, so people hang in there, there may be a velo ride but you may see the return of the coast to coast, but i dont know full details as to what will happen until then, we have the velo ride.
Hi,
If the person that has told me sees this site, please clarify for everyone what will happen and what Smith Family want to decide about the coast to coast?
Thankyou.
