The Coast to Coast ride (usually early March) has been replaced with the VeloAdelaide Ride on March 18th, 2012.

The route is a "loop ride" start/finish in the city and goes up the freeway (actually on the freeway) thru the tunnels to Crafers and then some options thru the hills before coming down Montacute.

Sad to see Coast to Coast go as the route Victor was always nice.  Like the idea of riding thru the Heysen Tunnel but it covers similar territory to the Ride Like Crazy, which is only 2 months earlier.

What do you think?

DD and I could get together and organise it. I am a Commissaire. I will message him to see what he thinks.

April 1 might be a good date as it's back on Central Standard Time so sunrise is around 630am which means people can start early without needing lights.

Given that it's unlikely that 2000 people are going to turn up it might be worth thinking about fast, medium and slow groups that each try and stay roughly together. Otherwise it ends up being a bunch of individuals scattered across 120km of road. I'd rather ride with a group than just ride myself, as I can ride that route alone any time I want.

It might also be worth thinking about food/drink stops. But that would require a few kind soles to drive a car and sit on the side of the road to provide water and "sell" cake/bananas.

I may contact Audax Australia to ask how they deal with public liability insurance. Ride Like Crazy have just introduced a liability waiver document that presumably protects the organisers from legal issues

I will drive my car and be support vehicle drink/food stop etc. A few others might like to also.

For the record, I'm just adding my utter displeasure at the cancellation of the Coast to Coast ride.  I've not ridden it before and was beginning to get excited by the idea of it... and now this.  Much GRRRR from me.

Don't worry Juz we'll get one organised!

just remember fergie it used to go up the freeway b4 heading to victor so you will need to get the climbing legs going and its 120km all up with a tough hill just b4 the end.,let me know if you want any help with the hill training.

Wail! I too liked the Coast to Coast route - early morning haul up to Crafers; downhill run via Mylor; then flat; then some hilly bits, finally a long haul past Ashton and down to Goolwa. Final ride along the Victor Harbor bikeway was always glorious - when they used that route.

& best of all - for singletons like me, with no family to pick me up - they organised cheap transport back.

I vote we organise Coast to Coast ourselves, for 3 weeks later!

A "loop" ride certainly has its advantages, especially from a central location like the city.. Part of the reason RLC is so popular I suspect... I've gone the C2C a couple of times, years ago, it was a great ride from memory but I rarely do group/paid rides these days so I'm not too fussed.. Nothing stopping us from still using the C2C route for a ride any time we like, they're public roads...

Anyone on twitter who wants to put some pressure on bikesa to reinstate the coast2coast please look up @dahondude and retweet my tweet. The more people let bikesa know what a bad decision they've made the better

I've posted my disapproval on Bike SA's FB page.

C2C was a favourite rouyte of mine too and I'll be in for an AC version for sure.
