Last night I watched the 6 pm Ch9 news?

In the sports report they had a segment on the Tour of Quatar. They showed a bloke falling of his bike, so short that they could not give his name, but long enough to poke fun at him. From the colour of his jersey, I think it is the Italian Champion.

The news thing they omitted to report, was that an Aussie born rider, Heinrich Haussler actually did win that stage. He also won the next day, Wed. as well.

I've written to them suggesting that some of us are actually interested in who won, and we always get a winner, unless it's cricket.

I realise they have a certain bogan element out there that can only focus on bad luck, and their bogan reporters need to cater for them. As an aside Ch2 did know who won but no mention of the chap who fell.

Feel free to vent your wrath by way of a email to Ch9.

The peleton was bigger than the finish crowd... and no kissing girls on the podium - a lady covered from head to foot brings up the flowers on a platter, hands it over to the presenter, a shiek who then passes it over to the winner with a handshake!

Maybe they should make it like a triathlon, 1/3 bike, 1/3 camel 1/3 sand yacht.

I'd certainly second that!
I agree with you Patrick. I only found out yesterday about the Port Adelaide CC's mission to support an obscure rider in the TDU. That is great stuff, bet it doesn't happen to them else where. Can't stop my self smiling about it. Gotta get a T Shirt next year. Med thanks, there got my order in.
I saw it.. it was one of those ooh ah type stories... then the silly banter between them was longer than the actual footage. kym dillon tells us he's done similar... yawn
You might have to make your comeback with the Flandrian d graders.

Well on the final day's Stage  Renshaw leads fellow Aussie Hausler by 6 seconds.  Going to be an interesting finish.    My tip is that Hausler will win, but I won;t mind at all if Heinrich does either. Looking forward to it.

Hey Derek... I bet Mark Renshaw wins;) (I'm so funny...not)!!

Now you know that I meant Mark Renshaw, didn't you ?

Yes, it's frustrating that cricket and AFL get so much more attention on Chanel 9 but hardly any to cycling. I have never seen 6 days of cricket or 6 AFL matches attract 900,00 spectators like the TDU.

The TDU is a multi-day event, so you are double counting. The figures for 2011 were:
Classic 108,000, Stage 1 101,000, Stage 2 102,000, Stage 3 107,000, Stage 4 (Challenge Tour day) 110,000, Stage 5 (Willunga Hill) 125,000, Stage 6 (Adelaide city) 119,000.

That compares with 310,000 for the morning of the 2010 Christmas Pageant, another free event on the city's streets.

The attendance record for cricket at Adelaide Oval is 51,000 (1932 "bodyline" test), for SANFL it is 63,000 (1965 Port v Sturt grand final). The attendance records for AFL at Football Park is 52,000 (2003 Crows v Port). There were gate charges for all of those events, whereas the TDU is free to watch.

Don't get me wrong, the TDU is a great event and we are so indebted to Mike Turtur for having the vision to realise it was possible to hold a top-rank work cycling event on the other side of the world to Europe. But because it is so fantastic there's absolutely no need to inflate the figures.
I was refering to the attendence in 2009 which was Lance Armsrong's comeback race when the attendance was approx 900,00.
