Hey y'all. Thinking about the possibility of changing my standard cranks to compact. I currently run shimano 105 5700l (if that means anything) and have a couple of Q's for all the technically minded peeps out there

1- I've seen a shim 105 5750 crank. Will this fit my existing set up?
2- do I need to change the bottom bracket?

Thanks for any feedback in advance!

yeah that is what i thought Jeremy. From what i have read the Shimano BB is compatible with standard and compact cranks

They are also compatible with other hollowtech cranksets, ie, ultegra and duraace....so if you find some ultegra compacts cheap, they'll also fit ;)

i have been looking but i am only allowed to spend what the Minister for Finance just spent on a rug for the living room! e.g not over $200.00  =-(

Looking on ebay?

Chain reaction have the Shimano 105 5750 172.5m crank arm for $151.60. seems pretty good.

I'm pretty sure that is all I have...

103,28 € here:

though they'll probably kill you on shipping :(

Yeah, bought from them before but shipping is often slow and expensive. If you can go in with some others and get a decent size order (and arent in a massive hurry) then they are good value

Not sure if it has been mentioned already but have you thought about changing your rear cass instead? It could be cheaper and easier. I have one bike with comp 50/34 - 12/25 and one with regular 52/39 - 12/25. The comp kind of does my head in for all but 5% of the time. Wish I had just gone 52/34 - 12-27 instead.

why does it do your head in?

I feel like I am for ever crossing gears over and side loading chains. Always hunting for gears esp on the flat - another good reason to not ride on the flat!

Why not just change the 12-25 to an 11-25 ?
