Ride Summary

You never can tell what the weather will do or how many will turn up up for the  GW rides during winter. After last weeks freezing temperature we expected the numbers to be be down today. However with the dry conditions and a relative “warm” morning 36 riders arrived for the ride. They included newbies Kev and Christene…welcome to you both.

You also never can tell what type of bike our riders will be on. Young Carmen rode the 60km route today on his Trike! Carmen is a member of the Xavier College Pedal Prix Team and he used today’s GW ride as an opportunity to get some extra training in for their next 6 hour race. It was his longest ride on the Trike and he gave the riders on road bikes a run for their money with speeds often over 30kph. Well done Carmen!

We have the occasional metro visitor who never can tell where the Gawler turn off is to get to the start. That was Roger today; forgot how to get to the start point and despite going an extra 10kms he still managed to get there just in time. Good to have you along today Roger!

In ideal conditions the flat ride provided something for everyone. Shortly after entering the Stuart O’Grady BikeWay the faster riders soon moved into TDF mode and hit average speeds of around 35kph on the first 23km leg. The slower riders took a little more time to smell the roses and enjoy the SOB. They were aided by a tailwind and of course had no traffic to worry about.

The puncture fairy decided to visit a couple of the riders just to add a little spice to the day…. C'est la vie! The group formed into various bunches on the return to Gawler and we were back home well before 10.30…a lot earlier than last week! More details on the ride soon from those who rode today…stay tuned!

Back at Jaspers the sun was shining and all of the talk was about the first Gawler Wheelers RPM Night that we will be holding on the 27th of June. The night is designed to introduce people to indoor cycling/training. If you have never experienced a RPM session feel free to come along. Numbers are limited to 40 with all the details avalaible on the GW page and AC Events. You never can tell….it could be the start of a brand new passion for you!

NEXT WEEK: We will be holding two concurrent group rides. One route will be for experienced HILLS riders and the other will be a BEGINNERS HILL route for those who would like to improve their hill climbing ability. Details will be posted on AC Events….and we would love to see YOU join us!

Thank you to all those who rode with us today, we loved dancing down the SOB with you!

Until next week remember:

"C'est la vie", say the old folks, it goes to show you never can tell!

good to see Christene out again I had hoped that she hadn't been cure of cycling from a rather long ride she went on in the past.

Thanks Don, wasn't a bad ride all in all - apart from not being able to feel my fingers most of the time.  LOL! The sunshine was lovely though!   Thankyou for the welcome Frank and thankyou to Mick and Richard for keeping me company and going at a much slower pace than you are used to.  I need to do some more k's obviously but I am improving gradually from when I first started riding in February.  I look forward to riding with GW again soon

It was our pleasure having you on the ride Chriistene. For a relative novice you did extremely well! You have your own personal trainer at home (Terry)... so get thhe kms in as we want you back with us asap!

@Frank... hey hold on there Frank. Me a personal trainer ? I cant even train myself let alone my Wife.. I just cant train her LMAO.. been trying for years...

Missed you guys today. I was getting my Bottom Bracket replaced for a 3rd time in 8 days this morning. I will just have to give it a workout tomorrow, with the Gully Grinders.

Looks like you had some awesome riding weather. Much better than Thursdays drenching that we got on SOBr31 !

Do you think you need to bring your tools, Pete?

I might pack my work stand & pit crew just in case !

We all missed you too Pete! What's the actual story with that bottom bracket? Has the bike shop where you got the bike from done the right thing by you?

I was thinking of you all today - will be back next week - hope everyone enjoyed themselves

Carl, the girls were asking about you as well! See you on Saturday!

NEXT WEEKS (23rd June) GAWLER WHEELERS EVENTS HAVE NOW BEEN POSTED.

These are both shorter routes and we should be back by 10.30 at the latest.. The HILLS ride is suited to  the experienced hills riders whilst the BEGINNERS HILL ride will suit those not so keen on the big hills.

Take you pick of two great rides. Look forward to seeing you there. If you have not been on a GW ride before just rock up by 7.10 and we will do the rest. (WE LOVE NEWBIES). Feel free to call me on the number listed on the Event should you have any further queries. Cheers.

Well the morning was much warmer than last week for sure BUT my fingers and toes still bloody froze up :) Had a wonderful morning out with my widdle blonde bombshell Christene :) Have to be honest here and say that the pace was rather enjoyable which had me and Lee joking around on the SOB and just plain having fun. No stress..no hot pace..just the right mental recovery I needed after my last weeks shocker ride..

Thank you to Mick and Richard for being patient with our pace this morning.

@Don.. it's just a case of Christene finding the time on weekends to ride with a group due to her working every 2nd weekend. She did ok though for her widdle legs LOL..

Gary Mills.. sorry I didnt take up your challenge you threw at me yesterday but ofcourse I had to see to Christene and besides I dont like loosing  LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!  What was your average Gary for this mornings ride ?

Thanks Lee for hanging around with us mate.. WE HAD A BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   think I could ride the SOB with one leg ? :) hehehe..I suppose I'll need to be more serious next week???...nahhhhhh that never going to happen :)

Thanks Frank for the write up and pics. You do a grand job mate.. I'll try to capture a pic of Mr Wilsonnnnnnnnn next week when I'm riding up front with him :) YER RIGHTO AS IF.
