G'day Guys and Gals,
Just wondering what the go is with getting the LCD display replaced in my edge 500..
Is this covered under warranty or anything?
if not... know of anywhere i could go to get it replaced or buy a replacment screen?
i've only had this thing since the last 2 days of March so it's still my "be all and end all".
Many thanks in advance,
Brett
Just seen
Bicycle express is an online store isn't it? but not an online auction store.. but i CAN go inside the shop and get a product myself.. in a little pickle, will still send product with receipt (invoice) and see what happens.

Hey Juz!
I just called Bicycle Express just to express my concern and had what you just mentioned confirmed.. seems all will be well :)
Permalink Reply by Tim B on May 10, 2012 at 13:15 Yep, I bought mine from BE online, sent it back to Garmin with a copy of the receipt and no problems. As Juz says, I think it is more an issue with sites such as eBay etc.
Posted it off last Monday, got a replacement unit last Friday so a good turn around from Garmin althought they quoted something like 7-10 days.

Wow I've been thinking they are indestructable. Dropped it on many occassions and sent it skidding across the carpark floor into a wall at work and it bounced back at least a couple of metres. Couple of small scratches around the edge otherwise perfect. It's not that I am not careful I am but I am just not good at it however based on this thread I will try harder.
It seems that the more one takes care of said Edge the more damage occurs =(
i've dropped it once and only once and all was good, just not the case this time round..

After all you can't expect a manufacturer to guarantee a product that is not made by them.
Update: cracked screens also includes the LCD appearing to "bleed" cost $160 to get a 'refurbished unit'..
My question now is
I did request to have the unit replaced with an identicle colour scheme (Red/Black) as i didn't want a Blue/White or Black/Gray and was met with resistance but they folded and apparently it's being sent today.
Any ideas on how long i must now wait? it's killing me not being able to measure distance/speed etc. and i'm constantly finding myself riding at what feels a slower pace because i don't want to unknowingly break any PR's or score a nice place on a Strava segment lol.
sorry... what was meant to be an update sorta turned into a ramble. =D
Permalink Reply by Tim B on May 21, 2012 at 18:52 I had a faulty Menu button on my Red/Black 500, sent it off Express post on the Monday, had it back on the Friday which means they had it Tuesday - Thursday (This was only about 3 weeks ago). I received a refurb unit, same colour scheme, looked brand new, suspect they use new cases, the screen still had the sticky protector on it and was scratch free underneath. When I registered it on the Garmin website, it said it had been previously registered in Feb 2010. The actual description of it in "MyGarmin" says its a refurb too. Had the latest software in it and no problems at all.
Hopefully you backed up your old one first, then all you need to do is drop the backup files into the "NewFiles" folder on the new Garmin and you should be good to go
backed it up.. LOL! oh sh*t (sic) all my rides are saved on Strava luckily.. but i suppose those other rides are long gone lol. hopefully it comes tomorrow, fastest i can get it is Wednesday due to work... should have had specific posting instructions. this one will come with a 10.5 month warranty due to mine being so darn new.
