Hi everyone,
I'm doing a business course for uni which requires the assessment of bicycle riding within the Adelaide CBD. If possible could people who commute to the city for work commitments answer a short questionnaire below? Responses can be simply posted in the current thread or sent to inbox if easier.
Gender:
Age:
1. Do you ride to work? If no, why? If yes, skip to question 3.
2. What incentives, if any, would encourage you to ride to work?
Some ideas of incentives include the options of showering facilities, storage lockers, dry cleaning and a café, all at one location.
3. How many days a week do you ride to work?
4. For what seasons of the year do you ride?
5. Are there any factors that you think could improve your commuting experience?
6. A list of services and facilities are given below. Please state which (if any) of these services would be of use to you.
Showering facilities
Café
Storage lockers
Dry cleaning services
Bike storage
Bike rental
Bike repairs and maintenance
Deals for the combination use of some (or all) of the above facilities and services.
Bicycle accessories and attire.
7. What do you believe would be appropriate prices for these services? Please state in terms of weeks, months, or year.
8. Any other thoughts or opinions?
Any responses are greatly appreciated.

4. All of them
5. a complimentary bike clean after wet rides
6, Aren't all of these currently available?
7. I am a realist, so whatever the price would need to be to be sustainable, But some sort of loyalty system that decreases the price for regular users would be good.
8.I believe adelaide is quite a bike friendly city and lots of my interstate or o/s friends who visit are amazed by how many cyclists they see in all weather, so we must be doing something right

1. No, I dont ride to work atm due to the distance I have to travel. Christies to Norwood.
2. Showering facilities for one would be advantageous as well as time.
3. None.
4. I have only been riding for a short time, but am looking forward to summer to start doing more afternoon rides. Other than that its limited to weekends of if Im home earlier, at dusk.
5. Safer roads or bicycle only sealed tracks that lead all the way to the city.
6. Showering facilities, Storage lockers, Bike storage, Bike repairs and maintenance, Bike accessories and attire.
7. You could have a seasonal membership or yearly membership that caters for all of the above for some. I would say a yearly fee of $200-300 per person is reasonable. Incentives for employees that ride to work could actually assist in the company reducing carbon tax if that helps the company. (I think the carbon tax is a croc btw)
8. Government incentives and company owner incentives need to work hand in hand for people to grasp the benefits of cycling to work. I dont know if there is already.

4. All
5. Improve the ped/bike light crossing of Goodwood Rd at the Tram Line. Takes forever to change and many times traffic gets a red light but ped/cyclists dont get a green one.
6. Showering - already in my building. Never use
Cafe- I make my own coffee
Storage lockers - already provided in building but I dont use. All my stuff gets stored in my office
Dry clenaning - no thanks
Bike storage - only if outside my building
Bike rental - no
Bike repairs/maintenance - no (or I go to a bike shop)
Deals - no
Bike acc - no
7. Free, $3 per coffee, free, dunno, free, $20/day, cost depending on job, costs depend on accessories and attire
8. Sounds like another one of these multipurpose bike storage facilities ala http://www.bikepark.com.au/
1. Yes
3. 2-5 days per week, depending on time of year and family demands!
4. All year - do pike out when it looks like reasonable rain is forecast
5. Roadworks that dont put signage in cycle lanes; regular cleaning of cycle lanes (always glass, rubble, concrete there); increasing the disincentive for cars to be in the bus/cycle lane eg on Pulteney Street when it should be clear of cars between 4-6 pm in evenings; some way of protecting cyclists in right turns (riding between cars across those big intersections can be pretty hairy!); more responsive light changes for the bicycle buttons at lights
6. I find I need secure storage and change facilities (so I can leave shoes, spare clothes, toiletries, towels etc) and this has not always been possible in various workplaces; secure bike storage (I like to ride my good bike!) that is also easy to access as you juggle bike and backpacks; somewhere to hang sweaty cycling gear to dry during the day (not nice to climb back into it at the end of the day); hair dryer and makeup mirrors to help you restore your good looks!
7. Any pricing is dependent on quality of cleanliness and accessibility (no good if not enough for peak times) - needs to be a lot less than a car park or a bus ticket!

6. Bike repairs maybe. Have most of the others already at work$5
7. $10 a month for bike repairs service, and limit it to 3 times or you have to pay mroe, something like the RAA run for cars.

1. Do you ride to work? If no, why? If yes, skip to question 3.
Yes,
2. What incentives, if any, would encourage you to ride to work?
My building (Riverside) has showers and secure bike parking for free, but there is a significant lack of storage. No where to store my clothes or toiletries
3. How many days a week do you ride to work?
once or twice a week in winter, more in summer from Modbury to city
4. For what seasons of the year do you ride?
All seasons, but less in mid winter
5. Are there any factors that you think could improve your commuting experience?
Yes. Most streets are a nightmare in the city area. Traffic, pedestrians, parked cars, buses, exhaust fumes with no bike lanes. We need some cycle friendly roads in the central city area
6. A list of services and facilities are given below. Please state which (if any) of these services would be of use to you.
Would only be of use if they were in my building
Yes Showering facilities
Café
Yes Storage lockers
Dry cleaning services
Yes Bike storage
Bike rental
Bike repairs and maintenance
Deals for the combination use of some (or all) of the above facilities and services.
Bicycle accessories and attire.
7. What do you believe would be appropriate prices for these services? Please state in terms of weeks, months, or year.
Should be free given the benefits to the community of no polution, less traffic congestion and healthier people
8. Any other thoughts or opinions?
Poor/impatient attitude of drivers: stupid pedestrians and a minority of fellow cyclists riding like idiots giving needs to be addressed

3 5
4 year round
5 no cars. But seriously, my commute is fairly good, only occasional problems with cars. @Jon H - complimentary bike wash/lube would be great!
6 Have all these available
Showering facilities at work are a key to commuting any decent distance, and SECURE bike storage.
7 Showering should be freely provided by employer. All others at fair cost. If you commute regularly these costs are effectively offset against the cost you save by leaving your car at home. If you commute occasionally there isn't much cost involved.
8 a commitment by authorities to driver education on sharing roads with cyclists would be good, and could be also promoted as good for environment and public health. Holding my breath!

1. Yes.
2 -
3. In theory every day but probably 4 a week on average across the year.
4. All in theory but drive when it's really wet or not feeling well for some reason.
5. I use Beulah Road so pretty good but improvements would be: less potholes, lower car speeds, bike lanes not in door zone, sort ouf Beulah Road/Fullarton intersection.
6. I currently have everything I want except for lockable bike cage of some sort. This means I can never ride my expensive bike to work.
7. I would expect showering, lockable bike storage, storage lockers should be provided by work places for free. The rest whatever is appropriate.
8. No.
