Ride Summary
All the talk prior to today’s GW ride was about Black Caviar! The world’s best sprinter was in Adelaide today chasing her world record 20th consecutive victory. Did you see the race? What a fantastic win in front of a sell-out crowd!
We got to the track a little earlier today to farewell some of the Gawler Wheeler regulars who this weekend are riding the 290 kms to Port Elliott and back. They are Juz, Pete, Michael, Dave and Andrew. We received progress reports during the day and are pleased to advise that they made it safely to Port Elliott at 1.47pm. A big 140 km ride today with Juz texting on arrival “.. about to go hunt food…..want fooooooooood!” Well done today crew and safe riding back tomorrow!
During the ride brief, following the overwhelming success and positive feedback last week of THE WHISTLE concept, Wilson expanded the initiative and presented two new whistles to yours truly and TEC Mick. The concept is all about enhancing the GW experience during our re-groups. We also welcomed newbie Craig, aka “CJ”, along for his first GW ride.
On a very crisp morning the other 47 riders left the starting gates for the scheduled 60km ride which took us down the Stuart O’Grady Bikeway. Whilst it was a little cool there was no wind and no rain so we knew that it would be a great ride. The first 23km leg along the SOB was a blast, and inspired by Black Caviar, was a flat out sprint for most riders at speeds of 30 – 40 kms. However unlike Black Caviar we needed a well-deserved re-group at the end of this leg.
On the SOB if you escape the wind on the down track you normally cop it on the way back. That was not the case today….yippee! All the way back to Jaspers Café the conditions remained perfect with no wind and the sun caressing us as we zoomed along. It was great to see many sub-groups form and riders helping each other along. Many PBs were recorded this morning with many average speeds of over 30kms for the 60 km ride. WELL DONE everyone…another brilliant GW ride just like Black Caviar's!
NEXT WEEK: We will be holding two concurrent rides. One is on a brand new undulating route through the Barossa Valley over a mammoth 105 kms. The other ride will also take us through the Barossa on a shorter 60km route. YOU are welcome to attend….just pick the ride that suits you best! Full details will be posted on AC Events soon! It started out as a cool, crisp morning with the GPS showing 10 degrees as I first hit the SOB. It was nice to see the the temp had rise to 21 once we got back.
It was an awesome morning for a ride with most of us riding faster than Black Caviar,

Yeah, have been a bit slack. I have three vehicles, but only one number plate for the bike rack. Was hoping that since all three are registered in my name that it wouldn't matter that I use just one of the three rego's for the bike. But it probably does. I guess the government needs to get every dollar it can these days.
So I wonder if there are are other GWs who have had to buy two or more bike plates, and then spend the time swapping the plates off and on the bike rack each time they use a different car?
In the mean time, I just hope the coppers are not as observant as 'hawk eye' Patrick! I suppose I have been thinking they have bigger fish to fry out there. But on a quiet day . . . .

Just buy two more racks and plates. :)
Big fish are too much work, big returns for little work is the name of the game now. Just hope the cameras at Elizabeth can't notice two plates on one car.

I paid particular attention as I recently changed the rego on my car and still have the PATRICK plate on the bike rack. Fortunately I haven't needed to use the rack since but knowing the way the coppers work they would ping you if they saw it, having said that when did you last see a patrol car out on the road anyway ?

A very cold start at 0610 this morning but turned into a great day. The lack of wind made for a good pace pretty well for the whole course. Great day,ride,company, coffee. Covered 112km for the day at an ave of 29.5 unfortunately couldn't keep up with the front runners who would even give Black Caviar a run for its money. Tempted to go and put the house on the horse but missed the start.

Another most enjoyable Saturday morning - the "race" to the southern end of SOB was fun (wasn't it, John?) - pity I couldn't keep up on the return leg........maybe next time. Thanks to everyone for a great time, and a big thank you to those who do all the behind the scenes organising - keep it up.

Certainly was a chilly start to the day but I wasnt complaining due to NO WIND and NO RAIN which meant Black Caviar speed ? Hmmm I lived in hope to get the elusive 30kph average.. Pushed and shoved my way through the ride and almost fell over as my legs were like jelly when we reached back to Jaspers...So was all worth the pain to get an average of 30.88.. Over the moon with the ride...
Frank your reports are the best I have ever seen from any club and your pics describe exactly what happens on our rides... The riders in this group are helpful and very encouraging which I could not have done with out today...
PS... Hey Lee we did hit the lead for a few minutes there hey ??? :) :) until we were swallowed up by MR Wilson and his crew LMAO...

Well done mate! You worked hard for that one, and plotted your way through the field like a champion. Now what's the next goal I wonder? Hope you're not going to retire now, and go out to stud? Who would I find to chase next?
