Any chance you will be about town tomorrow around 1pm?

The Greens are launching their The Bike Blackspot app and would like a few folks to come along to show their support (and look colourful for any media coverage). It's pretty low key. A few speakers and hopefully some news cameras.

Details: Meet at 1pm at the East side of Light Square (NE Cnr) in Morphett St adjacent to the TAFE college

FYI - The Bike Blackspot app has been developed by The Greens for us to report issues we come across on our rides. The info is then sent onto state and national transport ministers with the aim of attracting more funding for cycling infrastructure, as well as being available for everyone to view at sa.bikeblackspot.org.

We are pretty excited about the launch and hope to see you there

It's a really good tool the Greens have made and it has been running in Vic and WA for a couple of months. I can't be there tomorrow but was invited my Greens MLC and AC member Mark Parnell.
You can get the app now and if you don't have a smartphone report to the sites SA.blackspot.org

The app allows you to log a problem with GPS location data added, or highlight a good thing, and take a photo.

Search your app store for Blackspot or Sen. Scott Ludlam and share it with you friends.

Gus just had a chat with Mr Parnell it's actually sa.bikeblacksport.org . The chat might even be on the teev. I was the only one in lycra there.

My mates might be back from our ride by then! We'll definitely swing by if we are back in the CBD by then

The Android App store doesn't have this App.  According to the Greens web site the App is only available for the iphone and ipad.  This doesn't surprise me considering somebody most probably paid somebody to make this App or it wouldn't get made because pollies don't do anything for nothing out of the good in their hearts!

Thanks Michelle.  The launch went really well with Christian from Bicycle SA and Katie from BISA joining Senator Ludlam and me in front of the cameras.  Thanks also to Dr Jennifer Bonham from Adelaide Uni and the half dozen or so other cyclists who added some colour and movement.  Jeremy was indeed in lycra.

Channel 7 & 9 filmed it for tonight's news and ABC recorded for Radio.  I'll be talking to Michael Smyth on ABC 891 at 5.20 tonight if you want to here more.

I won't take Trevor's bait about the goodness or otherwise of Politicians' hearts, but I will point out that if you don't have an iPhone, you can log by email and I'll upload it.  Sam Powrie of Port Adelaide BUG is sending me 22 pages of bike blackspots from down at the Port.

For the technically minded, the App is based on "Snap, Send, Solve" which uses the GPS feature of smart phones to identify the location and tailor the email report to the appropriate people.  For our App, that means the State & Federal Transport ministers as well as me and Senator Ludlam. The beauty of this App is that the results are made public.  You can see what others have reported.  Check it out at: sa.bikeblackspot.org
