yello :-)

what is with the latest way bike paths are being line marked?  or should that be "the lack of line marking"?

most cycle paths now only have a centre line near intersections, rises, and where paths cross

is this a new standard?  has there been an official blurb about this new practice?

seems pretty dumb, we really need to keep this centre line (or broken line) all the way (imho)

is paint that expensive that council's have to skimp and save?

safe riding

sean :-)

Where have you noticed this Sean? I often use cycle lanes on the main roads, but not so familiar with off-road paths
glenelg to city.. also linear henley beach to city. seems that it depends upon which council area as well! there isn't a lot of uniformity as well, depends on which council are it seems?
The shared paths in the North Adelaide parklands near the Adelaide Aquatic Centre.
I wonder if 'inspected' means they sat in their car and drove along it? What I love most about this, is I still get honked at when I ride on the right line to give myself space to swerve in. All adds to the thrill of MTBing I suppose.
I think if the bike-lane symbol doesn't fit in the bike-lane then it's not a bike-lane...
I am yet to see any evidence that Councils across Adelaide, Dept Road Transport and Planning SA have any procedures for managing or coordinating bike lanes.
That picture posted earler of the crappy kerb on Anzac Highway, feebly dressed up to look like a bike lane, is typical of the shame jobs that we get foisted upon us.
In contrast, I went to Perth for a couple days and hired a bike and witnessed how good things can be.
I have attached some photos showing the Adelaide Council's stuff up in North Adelaide. I complained about it but nothing has happened. It actually makes me laugh because I can see where the line marking numb nuts went wrong!

This is where the lane starts (heading south on Jeffcott Street). There is a car park buffer, then the bike lane then the car lanes:

But after modifications to the bus stop, the line markers turned the car buffer lane into the bike lane and the bike lane...well...errrr...("guys..just scrape off that picture of the bike and we can go home").

yup, i travel back to glenelg from nth adelaide daily, and often go this way... i had a chuckle when they first did this! ffs it really isn't rocket science is it?
It's definitely one of the funnier pieces of bike lane artistry. I ride on this road occasionally and when I first noticed I laughed the whole way home back to O'Halloran Hill.
I reported Jeffcott Street to ACC some months ago but feedback was that it was OK.
After I saw your posting, I reported it a second time to ACC but a different person, saying to check this link with picture.
The next day ACC replied that it would be checked.
I understand your pain with regards to the above photo, I can only say in defense of the Linemarkers that they only paint as per the "plans" they are provided by council and or State Government.
I called the Council in and posted that picture in April. (see my post above, on 19th April)

Happy to say that sometime in the last month 'Hey Presto' the lines have been corrected.

Big hugs and kisses to all at Adelaide council. Top up your KPI"s.
For a few year now, I have been complaining about how the government fails to connect bicycle lanes together properly, but this is a first.
