Hi there

Can anyone please recommend someone to assess my current bike set-up and help to adjust to suit me?

Lately I've been experiencing groin pain after riding, and having been cleared of any other issues by my GP, think it is quite possibly related to my bike set-up.

If anyone has had similar issues and can suggest someone who may be able to assist, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Stephen

Heather, someone else posted a link to Steve Hogg. I have read a lot of his articles on bike fit and he seems to know what he is talking about and also doesn't follow a lot of the old wives tales on the subject, as an example about having the knee over the pedal axle. He goes into anatomy and some physics to explain why, in a simple way.
Anyways, he has written an article on Selle SMP saddles. http://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/blog/2011/09/all-about-smps/ I bring it up not to get you to buy one but he talks about the ass o meter and sit bones.
I have had issues with my seat and found it very interesting.

As an aside, there are two shops that I know of that have test saddles in the SMP range if you do decide to try one. I did and it didn't work for me but I only tried one.
Apologies to Stephen for hijacking his thread.... :)

Heather, i got to the point with my last road bike that I thought I would only be able to ride MTB, Hybrid or go down the custom build route if in fact any of those helped. Fortunately these days many bike manufacturers are recognising that not everyone wants to race and are making frames in a more Sportive or Endurance style, ie, there is more compliance in the frame but more importantly they are offering them with much longer head tubes and shorter top tubes which gives a more upright ride. Two years ago a bought a Cannondale Synapse (Specialized Roubaix is similar) and also fitted it with a stem that pivots up. The handlebars were way above my seat height but hey, I could ride again in minimal discomfort. I still struggle every day with some sort of neck and back pain, but i can at least ride again. Over time as I got stronger and used to riding I have slowly been lowering the bars until I find the crossover point between mild discomfort and headaches. My saddle was giving me trouble with numbness on some rides which is what led me to investigate the Specialized Body Geometry saddles with the cutouts (other brands offer similar things) which takes pressure off the important bits of the body and helps with blood flow. While I was trying to dial in the position of the new saddle I thought I would give a full bike fit another go.
Hope you recover from your injuries and get back to enjoying the bike.

Tim, thanks. My injuries from my crash 6 months ago are physio after a broken shoulder, and whatever happened to my back & neck to create the headaches.

lacate him? lol thought only women could do this .... :-)

Thats LACTATE Matt. haha

Getting seriously off topic, but no, men can lactate as well!

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions - they're very much appreciated.

I'll call a couple of the suggested people and see if I can book something over the next week.

I highly recommend James from Adelaide Advanced Physiotherapy (formerly EFM) 8232 2504  Charles St Plaza off Rundle Mall. Chris and I  have had 2 bike fits (for different bikes). He checks you out and treats your body issues and then sets up the bike for you.  The physio component can be claimed on private health insurance.  He is very good physio and knows his bike stuff. He has given us great feedback on riding technique changes to avoid or minimise injury and pain.
