On the AC group Look For Cyclists are links to Adelaide Cyclist discussions about insurance. Some are about insuring a bicycle and some are about claiming for insurance after a bicycle is damaged. See http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/group/lookforcyclists/forum/topics/...
Please read these hints.
However, as you are seriously injured, it could be best to contact Tindall Gask Bentley Lawyers who advertise on AC. Check the hub page, right column, about halfway down. The first appointment might be free, and they will do a discount for AC members. Make sure you tell them you are with AC. In South Australia, if you are in the right and prove the driver was at fault, then you get your medical, property damage and legal fees reimbursed / paid. If a serious injury as you say, you can also claim for pain and suffering. Another reason I suggest a lawyer is if English is not your first language. Collisions and compensation can be difficult for anyone.
Thanks, Heather.

http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/forum/topics/bike-accidernt – 5-Apr-2012 on Pirie Street, intersection with Pulteney Street, Baohong Hou hit by car and seriously injured. On 19-Apr-2012 will undergo head surgery.
I would strongly advise engaging a solicitor who can then handle everything on your behalf including driver identification, obtaining the police report and sorting out relevant insurance issues. That leaves you free to concentrate on getting yourself better. Once you have a solicitor then I suggest that you should seek all future advice from them and try to refrain from engaging in public comment about your case on an open forum.
I wish you well with your surgery and recovery.
That's good idea, Gillian, I'm not sure if this could go through work-cover because it happened during my working time (going for an appointment). Thanks for your wishness (today is my birthday).
That's exactly the sort of thing that a solictor will sort out very quickly for you. Again, do not elaborate on line as an insurer will look for any excuse to reject your claim including possibly denying liability because a different insurer might be more liable. Hand-ball this to a solicitor ASAP.
Happy Birthday - if that is possible in the circumstances.

This would be my No.1 advice to anyone in a collision, leave the stress to the experts, and get yourself sorted medically. Allianz seem to pay attention to the legal folks much more than joe citizen trying to handle the issues on their own!
Legal representation will organise police reports, records etc on your behalf and coordinate medical appointments etc...
All the best mate.
Keep all records of all letters, photos and hospital stay.
Also, keep your bike and say nothing more on Face book or any forum.
Keep a diary though from now on.
Good luck and hope it works out.
Permalink Reply by Don (Who's lost?) Nairn on April 19, 2012 at 15:33 I hope the surgery goes smoothly.
I would agree that concentrating on the best medical outcome is important.
I would have thought that as you were involved in the accident you would have been expected to make some sort of report yourself this may not have happened yet if you have been in hospital.
Permalink Reply by heather on April 19, 2012 at 19:38 Baohong, I agree with other cyclists. Omitted was to keep a record of all of your costs, including transport costs to medical appointments in the future.
Hope your birthday was good in 2 ways: joining Adelaide Cyclists and their friendly support; plus a successful surgery.
