I did it last summer with a slight tail wind and averaged 45kph with back pack on. That road can be gold if there is no traffic. (IMHO one of the most dangerous roads in SA use to drive/ride it at least once a week).

How fast is everyone doing Aldgate Vally Road? I have only ridden it once but I was struggling to get beyond 40km/hr. It's not a bad road is it really the best road to ride? Montacute Road below the Corkscrew would be my vote. Others that could contend would be Old Mt Barker Rd between Piccadilly and Stirling, Woods Hill Rd, Piccadilly Rd and Greenhill Rd between Carey Gully and Balhannah.

I was surprised how rough the surface was last time I rode Aldgate Valley still a nice ride though.

@ Paul was that up or down it?  :)

The surface is a little rough in spots but mostly very good. Very scenic ride and low traffic.

Anywhere the road points up is good for me. (life is too short to ride the flat) My favourites in no particular order - montacute, burdett road, pole road, turners gully, heather road, greenhill road.

+1 for burdett, but then you've got to turn around and go up pound.

I went down Pound Road and up Burdett... hmm Pound Road was nice. One day I might even try going down Burdett and up Pound...

Igotta say (this isn't Adelaide) but the Length of Crows Nest Rd Pt Elliot, it has up hill down hill and lots of wind

+1. Great views.

Piccadilly Road, Marble Hill Road and descending the old freeway

Can I say the SOB or does it need to be a road. SOB is smooth as glass and windy as hell good training one way great fun back...

Spent a while on Piggott Range Road today - kept trying to think of a road with a better shoulder (smoother, no interruptions) out of the traffic stream, couldn't think of one.  Views of Gulf and inland over Vales are a tad above ordinary as well.
