Mary was Australian before she took Danish citizenship.

If all Australian authorities in Federal, State and Local Government cycled, bet we would have good cycling facilities. For a start, they would understand cycling safety and needs.

Yes you are right Heather. Should have know you were a stickler for details :-)

Perhaps that's why she is not kittet out like a scarecrow

No helmet or other gear required...they probably close the street down every time she wants to go for a pedal.

No Martin, thankfully Danes are a bit more sophisticated than that. The solution is called biketracks. Raised and hence segregated tracks in between pavement and parked cars, which unlike painted bike lanes in this country, gets respected and reduce the risk of getting doored (since only passenger side open up to bikes side and most cars only carry a driver!).
Works for Mary and I think some 38% of all Copenhageners for their daily commute.
