With the dark, wet and cold mornings well and truly here it got me wondering about the hardy souls who are still getting up before dawn to start their ride...rain, sleet or snow they are out.

So who is departing before dawn, regardless of weather? Whats to motivator?

Personally this winter I'll be parking most of the riding in favor of a big chunk of running and swimming training. Not to say I won't be out on the bike, but it won't be before the sun or when it's raining (ok if it starts when out on the bike). So maybe a weekend here and there when fine and the odd commute.

How about you?

back to hibernation under the sheets

Can't motivate myself to do it in the morning, but quite happy to ride around in the dark in the evenings, having said that I have just bought a turbo trainer, so I have the option of going for a ride in the lounge if I want.

Still getting up. The most invigorating way to start the day. It's good to maintain some fitness even in the off season.
So are you going to join me at 4.30 tomorrow?
Funny you should say that...I'll be up at 4:30 but it will be to catch a plan to brisbane!

If I want to be invigorated I'll stick with some cold water on the face :)
WOMGiE!

I wake up @ 4:45 for work ,,and drive there with the heater on @ 5:30 .
I intend to keep riding out to the Gawler Wheeler rides each Saturday ,providing it's not pissing down when I leave @ 6:00.
It's an Icy ride ,sun is just popping up after I get there @ 7:00

I start work at 6am,  and only have a 5km commute, so unless the weather is at the most foul, I will be up & out on the bike well before Sun up.

I feel so much more alive after just a 5km ride, it's well worth the early start.

I'm like you Pete, on day shift I start work at 6am too. Up at 4:30 before leaving for work at 5am on an 11km commute. Doesn't matter whether its winter or summer, its still dark!!

+1

I often start, read most of the time, my morning rides before sunrise even as early as 4am. I do avoid riding in the rain and even try to avoid strong winds. Early morning is the best time for me to ride :-)

Got no choice so i will be out so long as it is not raining (Dont need the ks that much). Tom morning up at 5:45 for a cx loop through the hills and then home by 930.

Doing spin classes instead. Too dark, cold and wet!
