Permalink Reply by Tiny Avenger on December 29, 2011 at 10:41 If you are planning a ride in the hills over the weekend or following days please keep an eye on the fire danger ratings. It is likely that there will be severe and extreme fire weather warnings on at least some of these days. (This is usually the trigger for a total fire ban). Although they haven't forecast strong winds there has been a lot of grass growth so more open areas might be more of a risk than forests (not sure what the CFS is saying about this)
I always worry about what would happen to cyclists if a fire broke out. You can keep an eye on the CFS pager which provides real time information about the incidents they are responding to at: http://www.sacfs.org/paging/
Probably a good idea to tell loved ones where you are planning to ride as well.
Stay safe.
Permalink Reply by Martin Turner on December 29, 2011 at 11:45 Just back from a ride from Stirling to Handorf and return via River Road. Sun is fierce but the wind is keeping temps down. Headwind both ways along River Road. Mylor general Store is open if you need a coffee or pie.....the girls cant find the small cups so youll have to put up with sipping your short black from a huge cup.
Entertainment today out the front of the Mylor Store was supplied by a young P plate driver who couldnt get the key to turn in his aging Subaru. he didnt see the funny side when I offered to lend him my Bianchi. I held off mentioning to him that the bike was worth twice as much as the car and Bianchis never have ignition problems.

Had bacon and eggs at Moonta Bay watching the 2000 tourists fighting to get their boats in the water. Couldn't see much in the way of drinking water being loaded in the boats. Also bought a new light so I can get out earlier in the mornings. Looking forward to a swim a bit later. Stay hydrated!!
