I obviously have a very long way to go. I am averaging 21kph over all terrains over the last 12 months. Its crept up a little, but not as much as I'd like.
I climb very slowly, so I think that's my achilles heel.
Permalink Reply by Kraig Murtaugh on November 9, 2011 at 12:18 Cheers Paul, I did very little road riding due to work constraints, I have a Tacx Fortius trainer set up in the shed, which is where I did the majority of my training, and can ride the hills of Italy, Belgium and Holland or the mountains of France from home, along with a new healthy diet and a few meal replacement supplements seemed to work a treat for me. I think the best was losing 15kg though.
Permalink Reply by Paul S (Maximus) on November 9, 2011 at 20:57 That's a top effort.
I need to lose 12kg to get to the upper limit of my BMI which is 88kg. That's not going to be easy, but I started the South Beach diet Monday
When I went up Mt Lofty a few weeks ago, it felt like I had an anchor attached to the bike. (it was actually around my waist)
Which meal replacements did you use?
Permalink Reply by Kraig Murtaugh on November 9, 2011 at 21:21 Basically I've been on a high protein low carb diet and doing 2 to 3, 90 to 150 minute sessions on the trainer each week.
Supplements I take as meal replacement are BSC Hydroxy Burn Pro instead of lunch every day then also again pre and post training, I also use www.myfitnesspal.com to help track nutritional values of food and my excercises, this also links to a smart phone so you can scan barcodes etc of things that you eat.
If you ride alot, you need food, just the right food is the key here.
Strip all sugars from diet and eat fruit and bananas not bars or gels.
Don't do deep fried or food with preservatives and no snacks that are sugar laden, have an apple and the weight will drop off.
Key is, burn more calories than you eat but make sure you do eat as when you exercise, you need fuel(food).
A ride like Amy's would burn 2500 calories(according to my computer) on average, so do the math.
Can you do it? Yes you can!!!
Do it and than get a really expensive bike as a reward to make yourself ride even more!!!
