I have just read the editorial in todays Saturdays advertiser.

It is in stark contrast  to some of the anti cycling sentiments they allow to be be published in their Adelaide Now website. The editor has a balanced and positive editorial about cycling infrastructure today. Sorry I have not been able to find a link to it. It is worth reading.

Just to highlight how important it is to have decent cycling infrastructure in Adelaide and South Australia there is a letter to the editor from the Greens senate candidate Penny Wright. She explains how she has just been knocked off her bike by a 4wd .She gets right to the heart of the matter in that motorists are programmed to look for cars and that when they see a cyclist approaching the cyclist is invisible. She goes on to make the point that all cycle friendly cities are well aware of.That the more cyclists there are on the road leads to more cyclist aware motorists.

Well done to the editor at the advertiser.

And get well soon to Penny hope you are able to make a full recovery and are soon cycling and walking again.

I listened toPenny Wrightbeing interviewed on ABC local Radio on Friday afternoon. I didn't hear the beginning and I was not aware that she had been hit by another one of Adelaide infamous drivers and had serious injuries.
The ABC Presenter (female by the name of Sonia, I think) was almost aggressive in her approach towards cyclists. Each question by her was slanted towards the fact that cyclists were the problem on our roads, and although some are, until we get past this type of bigoted and biased attitude by the majority of people in the Media it is every man and woman for themselves. And as for the 'spokesman' for the Driving Instructors Association in Adelaide who was also interviewed, I really believe that we are seen as expendable items of little concern. His attitude was that cars are bigger than bikes so cyclists should get out of the way. Oh and of course bikes should be registered to catch the baddies. He failed to mention that over 12,000 of his 'instructed' drivers were 'pinged' in Adelaide last year for speeding through red traffic lights.
It's got me stuffed.
In fact $3m was raised by the 3 speed/red-light "SAFETY" cameras that are within the city mile alone last year! Where has this money gone? Straight into general revenue.
IT was a good editorial. It's on p76.

She didn't dwell on her accident but basically said Copenhagen Lanes are good for Copenhagen and we need and Adelaide specific solution. While the state government announced plans for cycleways and greenways these were piecemeal at best.

I'll see if I can get the artile scanned and ocr transferred.
Here is the full text of the editorial. Enjoy.
