If you spot a green Eclectus parrot on you ride around the city or parklands give the zoo a ring on 8267 3255. The parrot went missing during free-flight training when spooked by nesting magpies. Kia the parrot is bright green with red patches under his wings. Eclectus parrots are about the size of a Galah.

Kia should be fairly recognisable, no other Adelaide parrot like him.
Training flight eh? I had a dog , that if you let her off the leash - would do a bolt.

Permalink Reply by heather on October 19, 2012 at 20:58 Lone birds (e.g. escaped budgies) can be more vulnerable in the wild (e.g. attack from raptors) but also escaped birds might be poor at finding own food. I do not know what Electus Parrots feed on in the wild and availability of alternatives in SA. The other downside is the parrot might be captured by someone who keeps it in a small cage with inadequate room to use its wings.
