What would be the 10 MUST CLIMBS in Adelaide?
Im not really after the toughest/most challenging, just the MUST DO ones.
Permalink Reply by Jilden on December 2, 2011 at 19:26 Well, it's a hill alright! The bottom bit (Knott's Hill Rd) is a bit steeper than I usually ride, but it's a good change from the long ascent into Ashton from Basket Range. And the MTBers can do Blockers Rd instead...
Permalink Reply by Pete (repeats ?) Roberts on December 3, 2011 at 10:48 I did Blockers Rd the other week on my roadie...
Permalink Reply by Patrick O'Kane on December 3, 2011 at 11:37 Only ridden it (Pound Rd) once and it was hard yakka but very enjoyable once it was over :)
Nice to ride down :)
Permalink Reply by Baron Von Thierry on December 3, 2011 at 11:59 Added a couple more to the repetiore today, Acklands and Woolcock. Acklands is ok, fairly steady at about 10% till a false flat, then a bit of a kick at about 12-13%. Woolckock on the other hand is 12-15% most of the way, peaking at 17% at one point! Had to stop just short of the top to pick up my sunnies which fell off (clipped into my jersey) so lost 30-40 seconds :(
Permalink Reply by Patrick O'Kane on December 3, 2011 at 13:06 I think I'll add that to the repertoire. Not the hill, but the excuse about the sunnies, might help on a few Strava segments that I'm struggling with ;)
Hi all, southerner here thinking of heading to Nortons tomorrow for a ride to see what l the fuss is about, which road do people take to Nortons, the old or new?
New Paul particularly 1st timers, bear in mind which ever way you come down, take it easy, after todays weather their will be tree debris and mud, sand and gravel from the wash outs everywhere. Best downhill is Montacute.
Permalink Reply by Sam Young on December 17, 2011 at 17:33 Agreed, remember it'll be wetter at the top than the bottom, and quite probably still horrible and rainy. (it's become nice and steady here at basket range, and the bom cast doesn't look promising)
Thanks for the replies, decided to stay local due to the weather and ride roads I know, although did climb out of Clarendon for the first time, Clarendon Rd is a real nice easy climb with bugger all cars, really enjoyed that one, although wet at least it was cold.
Permalink Reply by durian rider on January 14, 2012 at 11:03 Coach House Drive off New Norton Summit road. Ride up that till you hit the T junction and then turn right all the way to the summit. Its the hardest 3k tarmac climb Ive done anywhere on earth.
Potters Rd out of Clarendon is good value too as is Angel Gully out of Clarendon.
Torrens Hill Rd off Gorge Rd is a hidden bonus.
Education Rd Happy Valley on a 40 degree after noon is like a 10 pak of Bikram Yoga classes but its free and in the fresh air with minimal traffic.
Old Belair Rd (mid day/early morn is quietest) and then turn left on to Sheok up to Mt Lofty Summit is the hardest longest climb within a 10km distance of any CBD in Australia. (Mt Wellington in Hobart is second closest)
