Adelaide Cyclist's sadness as a cyclist is killed in Adelaide

I'm sure this group will join me in expressing its sadness and extending its sympathy to the family of the cyclist killed this morning at the intersection of Cross Rd and Anzac Hwy. The incident with a truck happened in the early peak hour.

This is truly sad. I don't suppose anyone here knows any details as to the cause of the accident?
Very sad. :(
Another death of a cyclist this year - not good. Sadness and sympathy to all.
The driver of the van turned right in front of the 40 yo guy riding his bike West along Anzac H'way.
Take care Jim.
We should not need to be put under this pressure as cyclist. Virtually every time I ride there is an incident with a vehicle driver. What is it with them. Contempt, incompetence, stupidity or just that these drivers are dumb. I guess it comes down to the fact that they are protected in their ton of metal and 'who cares'. I get angry with them.
Take care out their friends.
Unfortunately what the Honda Driver has done is prefectly legal under the 'Roads Traffic Act' where I cyclist must give way if a car turns infront of them. What we all experience is alot of cars speeding up to turn in front of cyclist which is absolutely crazy. I had a car trying to turn infront of me right on the corner and then she realised she wasn't going to make the turn while I was yelling out at the top of my lungs!!! Some drivers don't realise if they wait the extra 5-10 secs they can turn once the cyclist has cleared the intersection/turn etc.
Very sad news. Sympathy to his family & friends.
All of my sympathy and thoughts are with this poor guy's family right now.

It was an accident, of course, but so preventable.

I used to use that exact corner on the way to work every day.

Without wanting to be too vitriolic at a time when the proper response is contemplation and sympathy, Anzac Highway is a vicious scar across our Western suburbs.

With three lanes, there is no excuse for not having a dedicated, 24 hour bike lane. The lane itself may not have helped here but the awareness that it would raise might have.

So I'll second Derek's comment; take care out there friends, because no one is going to do it for you.
Someone at work was just saying the driver again was using the sun glare excuse.

WTF? Put your sunglasses on, pull the visor down, or if you are really that sensitive to sunlight, get off the road.

Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
Yes, truly sad news - sympathy to the riders family.
Our group have had a number of accidents recently and most are the drivers fault. Too many motorists are just not vigilant enough or don't care when it comes to cyclists. They don't seem to realise that any time a cyclist is hit by a car could be fatal.
Some of the comments on the AdelaideNow news story are shocking and totally out of place at a time when all that should be offered is sympathy. I'm not surprised anymore by anything i read from drivers who think cyclists do not belong on the road, but it definitely makes me more scared to ride my bike.
Just had a quick scan through AdelaideNow - (generally I try to avoid reading the comments as it just makes me angry) - the fact that someone has been KILLED and there are people out there who are prepared to make hateful comments and further vilify cyclists is of great concern - the fact that AdelaideNow seems un-moderated is also of a concern - all about allowing factually incorrect information to be publish to sell news media - pretty cynical - but hatred sells, and some news media are more then happy to encourage it!
