Was hitting the dirt on the weekend and it occured to me that there is very little mention of mountain biking on this site. Why is that?

Sounds fun, esp. as I HATE riding on the road in winter in the rain. I like the idea of getting muddy on a MTB much better, and if you stack, hopefully the mud is softer than the road.

It is usually softer, unless you're in a rocky area. Last winter I did mostly MTB'g , preferably around Mt Crawford forest, there's a nice loop that takes you from Cromer , up to the peak of Mt Torrens (sensational views) and looping around back to the car.

It can be a little disheartening to flog your guts out for 2~3hrs and only cover a small amount of KM's though.

Plenty of discussion about all things "dirty" on our club forum www.amtbc.com/forum if you are that way inclined.

There is also a group with about 6 members on this site.

If you are interested in more, and wanna see some dirt action, we run a few races through the year - the next one is on Sunday at Flinders Uni.

cheers

Julia

Flinders = fun. A few parts that might catch newbies out so if you go do a good practice laps and plan where to walk.

I have done a little MTBing (not too technical) when on holidays in the country. Love it, but mainly home and utility cycling. MTB sturdy for carrying loads.

I ride my MtBike often, I ride my roadie often.. kind of depends on where I am going and my "mood". Clearly the roadie doesn't do well on off road stuff but the knobblies work fine (but heavy) on the bitumen and I luv the utilitarian style of the MtBike and dang it, disk brakes are *great* ..

Rode the MtBike out to Oakden today from Magill - return via the Fourth Creek Trail to Rostrevor then home via a friend's - nice ride but three corner jacks all over the place around the North East Road section...

rossmg, the three corner jacks might be defined as weeds, meaning that you can ask the local council to deal with them.

Need a cargo bike - weed 'em and box them out.

Why is that...its because we're all on the AMBC forum talking dirty :) amtbc.com.au, no point saying it twice ;)

If anyone is interested in some easy trails then head up to the Craigburn farm trails, the first SA Parks shared trails that they have spent money on in SA and its all legal :)

Prospect Hill forest 6 hr enduro: 3rd of June

Fox Creek 8 hr enduro: 23rd of June (twilight race requires good lights)

Cheek! Your website isn't .com.au, it's just .com. Thought I was being led to a non existent site there for a moment,  then I just gorgled it.

Oops, sorry. Just stuck the au on the end out of habit. You're right, its http://www.amtbc.com

What's MTB all about....well this guy can tell you: http://vimeo.com/26810156  more of Tom's videos here http://vimeo.com/filmevondraussen
