This is a decent length ride that you can bring your kids on.
Kids are welcome to ride either on their own bike, in a trailer or even on a tag-along bike.
The ride starts from the park on Aldinga Road in Willunga (the one with the old water tower)There is enough car parking for around 30 cars and a playground for the kids to play on whilst the adults make sure the bikes, trailers and tag alongs are in good working order for the ride. There are also toilets available at this start point.
Arrive at the park anytime after 9.00am for an 9.20am ride briefing and a 9.30am departure
The ride follows the Shiraz Trail to McLaren Vale. The actual route will be added in the next two weeks and may include some of the quieter backstreets to add a little distance
The track is undulating (ie. NOT flat) and will prove a good workout for most kids and for those adults who tow, so a reasonable level of fitness will be assumed.
The halfway point is the McLaren Vale visitors centre, which is able to provide refreshments and also had a playground for the kids. The halfway point is reached at approximately (to be advised). It is anticipated that there will be no longer than an hour spent at the Visitors Centre to recover.
We will return via the same route.
The expected time of return back at the start point is 12.00pm
All riders with a mechanically sound road or flat bar type bike (including mountain bike) and an approved helmet are welcome. It is advised that you ensure that your bikes and/or trailers, tag-alongs are in good working order prior to the day of the ride.
All adult riders ride at their own risk and are deemed responsible for any and all of the children they bring to the ride. It is advised to have public liability insurance, and to carry emergency contact details.
This will be my last organising of a group ride for a while, hope to see you there.

Comment by Michelle Crick on May 19, 2012 at 20:51 Yeah sorry to hear the ride got canned but looking at the amount of water that came out of Phil's shoes after the Muddies ride was definitely the best choice.
I would like to get an organised rag tag event on a Saturday afternoon soon...
@Geoff we have a trailer that we no longer need as ours are too big for it. Wattsy might be right about her being a bit small but you are welcome to try it first. It just sitting in the shed all ready for the next little person :-)
Hi Wattsy, sorry to hear the ride didnt happen, we will be good to go by the next one, looking at a little 650 racer for James as well now.
Comment by Andrew on May 19, 2012 at 15:48 Hi Zippy. To tell you the truth, although I've seen plenty of trailers I've not see any that stand out as being massively better than any others (in the two wheeled versions in any case). The first year that we took Beth out (from about 10 months) on the bike was in a kids seat rather than a trailer. She was too big for that by 2 and managed to fall asleep in the trailer we got for rides afterwards! I reckon give Bert or Dave (?) at Oxygen cycles a few questions. They have a stack of experience at towing kids!!

Comment by Andrew on May 18, 2012 at 20:52 The weather is not looking promising, but I will go to the park for 9am. Just in case.

Comment by Andrew on May 16, 2012 at 22:10 As with last time out, the weather is looking decidedly borderline for Saturday. I'll still be there at 9,00am with Beth and make a call after looking at the radar and the sky at the time!
