Event Description

On Sunday May 29th from 10am – 1pm The Bicycle Institute will be holding our Annual General Meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Pympton Community Centre, 34 Long Street, Plympton. The centre is located just off the Westside Bike Way a few kilometres out of town. To get there we will be organising a ride from the city, starting at 9am for a 9.15 departure. Following the AGM we expect to head off for another (short) ride and a picnic lunch. Location of the start of the ride and the picnic are yet to be confirmed but I envisage heading out of the city from near the corner of South and West Terrace and holding the picnic at a reserve on the west side of town (TBC).

Out guest speaker on the day will be the Commissioner for Integrated Design, Tim Horton. We are looking forward to hear Tim share his thoughts on the future design of Adelaide and the role of the bicycle in meeting the challenges faced by our cities.

I do hope that there will be a good number of members and non-members in attendance. Come and learn a little more about what The Bicycle Institute has been doing this year and what opportunities there are to get further involved.

The ride after the AGM will be heading in a coastal direction, mainly via quiet streets and bike paths.  We will be aiming to join with Suede and Smanna on the very last little bit of their unicycle ride from Darwin to Adelaide. Our lunch spot will be Moseley Square - their final destination.  Looking forward to an interesting and enjoyable day.

@ Robyn - the day is west of city orientated (hmmm, west orientation?).  Is getting to town and trying out a City Bike an option? That would be a nice addition  to our ride.  After all, we'll be doing the "Not The Grand Slam" ride (tongue in cheek)!

Just checking the weather for next weekend - the long-range forecast looks like the rain will be clearing up with a mild day. Hope that it will be a nice afternoon for the picnic following the AGM.

It is with much pleasure that I can (finally) announce that we have a location for the bicycle workshop – The City of West Torrens have allocated us a space in the Plympton Community Centre. The AGM will be a great chance to come down and have a look at the space, discuss operations and get in early with ideas and input into how it will be run and what involvement will be required to make this a success. Hope to see you all there - Just to remind everyone - picnic lunch is a BYO affair, ride from the city will be a casual paced spin along the West Side bikeway, and if people are coming from other parts of town we can always aim to have a couple of 'bike-buses' organised through Adelaide Cyclists to 'pick' you up on the way..

I would be more likely to attend if it was somewhere central like the Box Factory on Carrington/Regent Sts Adelaide. Plympton is too far to ride from the north-eastern suburbs.

Jeremy,

Thanks for the invite but I will not be able to make it. I will pass the information on to others in the BUG to see if they can attend.

On the 29th of May the Australian International Pedal Prix will hold it's first race for 2011 at Victoria Park. If Mr Horton is up for a ride perhaps you would consider bringing him and other riders to the east parklands to have a look.
