Yeah it was good although my legs are telling me about it now :-)
Comment by Dave, Lewiston on August 7, 2012 at 21:27 Hate to say it Andrew, but I picked a good afternoon for my SOB comeback! Even tried out the Strava app on my new smartphone. Look out, I'm only half-an-hour behind you!
Nice riding with you, Mark and John.
Comment by Andrew M on August 7, 2012 at 16:54 upset to miss this one in such beautiful weather -- I've got a bloody virus or something that's just hanging on. Thursday's weather looks pretty shit.
Good luck with it. Don't rush it Pete. It might take a while to improve. A few years even! Just try to make conditions for it better so that it can improve. Maybe set up your handle bars and seat a bit differently to make the bike more back friendly. That is what I have done with mine.
@Pete, I have the same problem. Three bulging discs hit me 'out of the blue' about 8 years ago, aged 52. I was a very keen, competitive golfer and sailor. I played golf Saturday mornings at the North Lakes golf club and then straight down to the Port River Sailing Club for the afternoon racing. Had to quit the golf club and the sailing club. Only play golf or go sailing about twice a year now.
But the back pain has gone provided I am careful with what I do. I can play a bit of golf, as long as I don't over do it. Same with the sailing. Strictly non-competitive on both now.
I took up swimming. Love swimming. Good for the heart and lungs. Love swimming in the ocean - especially 'long' swims up to 4km. Good for the back, because it takes all the downwards force of gravity off the discs. I replaced my old bed with something a lot firmer.
My doctor sent me in for a cat-scan. He told me to stay away from chiropractors because they could do even more damage. And if I ever went to a physiotherapist, and he hoped I didn't, that I should take the scans and let them look at them carefully before they laid a hand on the back.
Do you feel that one leg feels longer than the other? My back was clicking out of alignment occasionally, and as I walked it felt really bad. As if one foot was about 2cm lower than the other. I accidentally found a simple manoeuvre that clicked it back into alignment, and all the associated pain just vanished in an instant. It happened late one night in a school bus shelter at Magee, on the long lonely road between Swan Reach and Loxton. I’ll catch up with you on that one if you are interested.
I think my bulging discs may have calmed down a lot now. I still have to be careful not to aggravate them. I think you might need to work out what could be causing your problem and try to fix it. Too many hours sitting in front of a computer at work? Maybe set yourself in a recumbent position. Can you get a recliner chair and set up a flat screen and keyboard on a frame to suit.

Its' going to be hot out there tomorrow. Over 20 I think! Might need two water bottles and sun-screen.
