SAKURA Ride for Japan- In support of the Japan's tsunami victims
The 11th of March has become an unforgettable day for Japan. It has been hit by a largest earthquake in the history of Japan. Tsunami has also devastated many towns by the coast line and many people are still suffering.
We have organised this charity ride on April 9 from 8.30am. It has two groups; one is to the hills (Mt. Lofty) and another along the coast (Glenelg) - to suit all riders. Both groups will start from the Himeji Gardens on South Terrace at 8.30am and return to the Gardens where riders can catch-up.
Let`s cycling together and think about Japan.
If we can get some doneations from riders, I send it to Red Cross as Adelaide Cyclists after this event.
If you want only donation, you can send it to Red Cross directly.

It was such a lovely ride today - the weather was a bit grubby but (for the coast ride at least) not objectionable. I enjoyed riding in the rain we had :-)
It was also great to meet more people. I was very impressed to meet so many people who weren't AC members but had heard about the Sakura ride through friends or BikeSA. Hopefully this will translate to even more members here!
Comment by Chris Hutchinson on April 9, 2011 at 18:57 Well done Asami - I think that is an excellent result with the funds donated
Had a great ride & lovely to chat to other riders. The BBQ was brilliant - loved the Japanese touch with the rice cakes. Great to see 2 cultures come together/ the Aussie snags in bread with the Japanese option! Might be asking you for the recipie...but guess as in sushi it is all about the way the rice is cooked!

Comment by Dave, Lewiston on April 9, 2011 at 15:55 Great turnout, Asami, and thank you for the opportunity to attend. It was great meeting so many AC members, and the WOW group. Wow indeed!
Peter was right about the descent from Mt Lofty. I can't remember being so cold in my life! It wasn't really suffering at all compared to that of many in Japan, though.

Just I counted money for donations. It had $875....everybody thank you. Still I can correct some donations. So I think I will send this funds to Red Cross within 1week.And I will say again...my greeting for the event as follows;
Thank you for your attendance this morining.
You are all aware of the trageties that have happened in Japan and there ongoing nature. That is the reason for our being here today. We hope to raise some funds to forward to the Red Cross for aid in Japan.
Although the disasters that happened in Japan could possibly happen anywhere in ther would.
I am proud of the fact that Japanese people have coped so well with this crisis and hope fully shown the rest of the world how to behave under such extreme duress and how to help your fellow people.
I do hope and wish for a speedy recovery in Japan. And that no other nation has to under go such a large disaster in the future.
I will just remind you of another charity ride week tomorrow 17th for the disaster in Christ charch.
I will close by thanking all who are helping today and pateculary the ride leaders.
