Event Description

FOR RIDER SAFETY THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE EXTREME WEATHER.

It is intended to try again sometime in the next few months. My apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Wattsy

There are times in your life you will always remember and one of those is your first time... up Old Willunga Hill.

This will be a social group ride with the express intention of getting as many people up this hill as possible who have not previously done so.

The start will be from the McLaren Vale Visitors Centre on Main Road (known to many as the finish to Amy's Ride), which will be open from 10am so there should be plenty of car parking available when we are starting.

We will gather for a ride briefing at 8.15am for a 8.30am start. The ride will be around 24km in length and as for the hill itself, its not actually that hard, especially after the first third.

I have attached an example ride that someone else has put together. It is indicative of the ride route only and may change slightly on the day (ie using the road instead of the bike paths).

As always, a Tail End Charlie will be assigned to ensure that no one is left behind on their own.

The availability of bakeries on the day will be determined in due course!

HOT WEATHER POLICY

The scheduled event will be cancelled, when the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts the Noarlunga maximum temperature on the day to be equal to 37 degrees Celsius (as recommended by Cycling SA) or higher in the 4:00pm forecast issued the day before the event.

The scheduled event will take place as normal, when the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts the Noarlunga maximum temperature to be less than 37 degrees Celsius (as recommended by Cycling SA) in the 4:00pm forecast issued the day before the event.***

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers

Wattsy

*** Thanks to the Gawler Wheelers for assistance with the hot weather policy.

Hi,

Thankyou! Will look forward to doing it when it is on!  Yep! Not good weather for this ride being the hills!

Thank you Wattsy.

It probably would have killed me...

at least I would have died doing something I love, but I do appreciate having a few more hours, days, weeks, whatever...

I'm very tempted to try again on Adelaide Cup Day (March 12th). The only issue I see is that its really close to the GW's first anniversary date and although there is no ride yet for then, I'm assuming that it'll be a bit of an event in itself. It'll work out in the wash no doubt!

Lol yeah calling on my inner Colin tonight! Lol

Willunga will always be there for next time. Should try and make it a combined SSRC & GW as I am sure we have a few Willunga Virgins in the group

Trent is speaking on behalf of Colin who can't be with us at this time.

A wise decision I think Wattsy. Anyone behind me on the climb would have had to cope with a waterfall ;-)
