Ride Details
An undulating ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.

After leaving Gawler, the ride follows the Barossa Valley Way passing through Sandy Creek and Lyndoch. The ride follows on to picturesque Williamstown, via Lyndoch Valley Rd, where it will be possible to have a short break.

The ride continues with a left turn onto Mount Crawford Rd from Williamstown's main street before veering left onto Springton Rd.

A brief stop in the small hamlet of Springton will be welcome after the long ride from Williamstown, before the route sets out once again but this time along the Mount Pleasant-Keyneton Rd, until another change of direction takes place with a left turn onto Flaxmans Valley Rd.

After some distance, a left turn onto Tanunda Creek Rd skirts the edge of the Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park leading up to Menglers Hill Rd, where a left turn is made. The fast descent to Light Pass Rd will be a welcome reward for some riders. Light Pass Rd becomes Bethany Rd, which eventually meets Gomersal Rd to begin the return journey to Gawler.

At the end of Gomersal Rd, and after a short section of the Sturt Highway, a right turn onto Roseworthy Rd leads to the Gawler-Kapunda Rd where a left turn directs the route south.

Nearing Gawler, a left turn on the Main North Rd 'loops back' to the Gawler Bypass which is ridden until The Two Wells Rd exit, signifying the last section of the ride and the return into Gawler.

IMPORTANT

The Gawler Wheelers Group Ride Guidelines and Group Ride Recommendations must be read prior to attending a Group Ride Event.

I agree and support the decision to cancel this route for this weekend. I hope we get to do it in a month or two when things are safer.

PLEASE NOTE: MEMBERS OF THE GW COUNCIL ARE NOW CONSULTING. WE ARE HIGHLY LIKELY TO CHANGE THIS SCHEDULED ROUTE DUE TO THE FIRE SITUATION IN THE EDEN VALLEY. FURTHER DETAILS WILL BE POSTED TONIGHT. STAND BY. MESSAGE POSTED 8.10pm FRIDAY

Although it will be cooler tomorrow morning there are southerly-southwesterly winds of 20kph forecast for the ride period.  These winds could easily stoke up hot embers and create further problems.

Also, riding through the area immediately after such an incident seems a bit indecent to me. (my opinion only)

Cheers Terry...have had a couple of calls about the Eden Valley fires. We will assess in the morning and arrange amended route if required. Will keep the distance the same if possible. Hope that everyone is safe in the area.

The plan is still on track - Wendy will be riding and I will be able to play sag-wagon from Bethany/Tanunda for those (few) in need

Thanks for the better weather Frank. Do you have a line on the CFS to make sure it will be safe for us to get past the fire zones in the Barossa?

Vanessa - just remember to eat enough to get to the next stop each time, and enjoy the head winds ;-)
