Ride Details
A hill climber's ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.

After leaving Gawler, the climbing starts almost immediately with the steady rise of Sunnyside Drive followed by Alexander Ave with its multiple steep gradients. From the top of Alexander Ave, the Gawler-One Tree Hill Rd provides a few fast/slow undulations before the downhill run to the Humbug Scrub crossroads.

The long steady climb of the One Tree Hill-Kersbrook Rd takes the rider up and over the 500m peak above Mt Crawford Forest followed by the fast descent into Kersbrook. From Kersbrook to Williamstown the road undulates just enough to keep the legs pushing and spinning, making the scheduled break in Williamstown all the more deserved.

Leaving Williamstown via Yettie Rd, the route then continues onto Balmoral Rd and Calton Rd before the final downhill run to Gawler.

IMPORTANT

The Gawler Wheelers Group Ride Guidelines and Group Ride Recommendations must be read prior to attending a Group Ride Event.

I have just checked the BOM for Adelaide with a forecast top of 42C, so i guess our events are cancelled based on my understanding of the Heat Policy.

I may still ride up toward Williamstown tomorrow morning and go past Farinas about 7am.

Hi all. The Gawler weather forecast for Saturday morning is below fyi.

NB: In view of the forecast temp it is highly likely that the scheduled GW rides will be cancelled in line with our established GW Hot Weather Policy. The policy was put in place in the interests of riders health/safety, after wide member consultation...and research.

As per the policy (below) a final decision will be made tomorrow (Friday) after the BOM updates the forecast at 4.00pm. Members will be officially notified on this event page and via group email if the rides are cancelled. You will appreciate that in consideration of the well-being of all of our members we do not deviate from the Hot Weather Policy..

@PPC - so long as I'm not riding solo, I'll be doing the ride - are you planning on riding back to Nuri in the heat?

Comment by PlantPoweredCyclist on January 29, 2014 at 18:18

Hey carl, are you saying ur gonna ride anyway? I plan to ride to gawler from nuriootpa in the morning to do the ride regardless of temp

Is there an option to start earlier in the heat?
