Comment by Patrick O'Kane on September 1, 2011 at 8:17 That is an awesome average speed Graeme for 150kms. I paced myself for a 25km/h average and took it steady and felt really fresh after loop 1, I usually go too hard on the first loop and bonk on loop 2. The second loop was good, the hill wasn't as steep as I'd expected but obviously the wind played a part in making it hurt. Now for the 200km ride, I've only done that distance once, the MCCT ride last year but that was spread over a full day with beer and food stops on the way home. :)
Comment by Graeme Weatherill on August 29, 2011 at 10:10 Thanks for turning on the great Weather Bike SA! I had a great ride and met up with David who I rode a lot of the last Grand Slam with at the end of loop one. On the second loop we got the average up to 31.6km/h by Woodchester, but the hill and wind destroyed all chance of completing the two loops in under 5 hours. Dave broke a spoke about 25km from the end and performed a massive effort to limp home with the rear rim rubbing on the brakes and frame. Total riding time 5 hours 6 mins, averaging 29.3km/h.
Comment by Rob (Chewbacca) on August 28, 2011 at 23:36 Bum...wish I was there....stupid head cold :( Maybe next weekend might go for a spin on the course to make up for missing it....Bum (again)
Superb ride from Echunga today! Thanks BikeSA for another fantastic event! And to top it off, I somehow managed to win a set of Giant tires for my bike! So a massive thanks to BikeSa and Giant for that, too! #5 here I come! :D
Comment by Pete (repeats ?) Roberts on August 28, 2011 at 23:21 I agree Patrick, Loop 1 was super !
If it had not been for that head wind on the Woodchester Climb, loop 2 would have been almost as enjoyable.
I met lots of great people along the route today. Love these rides...
Comment by Sue on August 28, 2011 at 20:31 Had a fantastic ride today. One of the best rides I've been on. 150km!! woohoo!! :-)
Comment by Dave L on August 28, 2011 at 20:26 A PB for me too, first 150km ride and averaged over 25kmph. Never want to do that Woodchester to Mt Barker again, it was cruel into that wind. Well done BSA.
Comment by RD6 on August 28, 2011 at 19:41 sounds like you guys / gals had a blast !
Comment by Patrick O'Kane on August 28, 2011 at 19:26 Loop 1 was just awesome, the best of the series by far. Loop 2 was good until Woodchester. In contrast to Ian my nutrition/hydration today was close to spot on.
