Ride Details
An undulating ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.
After leaving Gawler, the ride joins onto the Gawler Bypass before linking up with the Gawler-Kapunda Rd. A right turn at Roseworthy Rd leads to a short section of the Sturt Hwy before the undulations of Gomersal Rd continue the ride towards Tanunda.
A left turn at the end of Gomersal Rd leads to the picturesque entrance of Tanunda where Murray St is ridden through the town centre.
A left turn onto Bilyara Rd, followed by a combination of Langmeil Rd, Smythe St and Stonewall Rd, pass many picturesque vineyards along the way, eventually meeting Seppeltsfield Rd where a left turn is made.
After riding past the tranquil surrounds of the Seppeltsfield Winery, a left turn at Hempel Rd starts a 2.5 km section of unsealed road, eventually passing under the Sturt Hwy where the bitumen road begins again with the Old Sturt Hwy. This leads to Daveyston Rd and on route to Freeling.
A straight ahead at the crossroads leads to Hanson St and Freeling's town centre where it will be possible to have a short break.
The ride continues in a westerly direction to Templers and Wasleys before returning to Gawler via Kangaroo Flat along Mallala Rd, passing Roseworthy College along the way.
Mallala Rd eventually becomes Redbanks Rd and a right turn at the large roundabout leads back to the Gawler Bypass via a short section of Weyland Rd.
The Two Wells Rd exit from the Gawler Bypass signifies the last section of the ride and the return into Gawler.
IMPORTANT
The Gawler Wheelers Group Ride Guidelines and Group Ride Recommendations must be read prior to attending a Group Ride Event.

Comment by Frank (GW) on February 22, 2013 at 4:52 Adelaide Terry...ie as per the link below details. FYI the Hot Weather Policy was established some 18 months ago following requests from several GW members. Formulated after wide research....and after consultation with various members. Only triggered once to date. Further update later today as per my note below.

Comment by Wilson Devo on February 17, 2013 at 22:41 POINT OF CLARIFICATION - UNSEALED SECTIONS
A number of Gawler Wheelers Routes include a short section of unsealed road, such as ➨ ROUTE08 and ➨ ROUTE56.
Riding your road bike on unsealed roads is an important skill to acquire as you may be forced to ride unsealed sections due to roadworks or detours at certain times.
Even UCI WorldTour riders such as Alberto Contador, pictured above climbing the Plan de Corones mountain time trial in the 2008 Giro d'Italia, must contend with unsealed roads from time to time.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
For ROUTE56 there is a 2.5 km section of unsealed road.
Example travel times are listed below :
At 15 km/h, the section will take 10 minutes to travel..
At 20 km/h, the section will take 7½ minutes to travel..
At 25 km/h, the section will take 6 minutes to travel..
