Ride Details

An undulating ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.

After leaving Gawler, the ride joins onto the Gawler Bypass before linking up with the Gawler-Kapunda Rd. A right turn at Roseworthy Rd leads to a short section of the Sturt Highway before the undulations of Gomersal Rd continue the ride towards Tanunda.

A left turn at the end of Gomersal Rd leads to the picturesque entrance of Tanunda where Murray St is ridden through the town centre and continues along the Barossa Valley Way towards Nuriootpa. A right turn on South Tce followed by a left turn onto The Crescent, leads to the start of the 6.5 km Nuriootpa to Angaston Bike Path.

The Bike Path eventually reaches Washington St in Angaston where a left turn connects with Sturt St and leads to Murray St. A loop of Angaston's town centre via a combination of Murray St , North St, Dean St, Sturt St (once again) and Fife St leads back to Washington St.

Exiting Angaston via Washington St continues the route until the intersection with Stockwell Rd, where a left turn is made which eventually reaches Light Pass Rd where another left turn is made. Light Pass Rd becomes Bethany Rd, which is then ridden until the return to the Barossa Valley Way is complete.

The Barossa Valley Way begins the return journey, passing through Lyndoch and Sandy Creek and eventually reaching Gawler.

Apparent temp at Gawler was -3 when we left.   The icyness in the air was something to behold.

@Don.. pretty sure we almost had -3 when we took off from Gawler this morning....bbbrrrr

@Frank...I think we might need the scotch pre-ride tomorrow just to warm us up! (and don't worry about the ice)...just think we could be in Canberra where they are going for -3!

It's all in the mind guys...dont't think 1 degree ...just imagine that it's warmer :-)!!!

I am planning to do the same Don. And Scott usually rides out from Wingfield too, and a few others I have passed in my little blue Commy. Might see you somewhere between Elizabeth and Gawler. I wonder how ice blocks communicate with each other? Then again my alarm might fail to go off LOL.

Comment by Don Plush on June 8, 2012 at 18:15

Forecast for Elizabeth tomorrow morning is 1 degree...hope I don't turn into an ice block on the ride out to Gawler!

Thanks for the forecast, Frank. Much improved on the one you posted last week, which was 1 degree to start with!

Whilst in your ecstatic state, you must have had words with the weather gods. Good work!

Hot off the press > latest local weather forecast for the ride..see below.

In summary, a little chilli at the start...the sun will join us at about 8.00am. No wind. No rain. What a way to start the long weekend! Everyone welcome. Two sleeps to go >> then 87kms of pure ecstasy. CU THERE!

PS: Ecstasy = "a state of consciousness characterized by expanded spiritual awareness, visions or absolute euphoria"
