Ride Details
The route is predominately a beginner hill climber's ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.
After leaving Gawler, the ride follows the Barossa Valley Way passing through Sandy Creek and Lyndoch. The ride continues on to picturesque Williamstown, via Lyndoch Valley Rd, where it will be possible to have a short break.
The ride continues with a left turn onto Mount Crawford Rd, from Williamstown's main street, which soon becomes Warren Rd, climbing gradually upwards towards Warren Reservoir. Once the peak is reached the route is reversed, with a fast downhill run back to Williamstown's main street.
Leaving Williamstown via Yettie Rd, the route then continues onto Balmoral Rd and Calton Rd before the final downhill run to Gawler.
IMPORTANT
The Gawler Wheelers Group Ride Guidelines and Group Ride Recommendations must be read prior to attending a Group Ride Event.

Thanks Terry. The mud could be a challenge because my tyres are only ATs ( All Terrains ) rather than what they call muddies. And they have only about 50% tread on them. But they have had no rain north of Marree, where the dirt starts, for the last few days, and the weather forecast is for lovely sunny days till next Friday ( 16 to 20 degrees! ). Now if I head a bit further up, towards Darwin . . . ( it gets even warmer!). So although the Birdsville Track is listed as 4WD only at the moment, I am hoping it will be OK for my tyres. Never been to Birdsville before, so am really looking forward to it. Enjoy your ride tomorrow. I see there is a nice ride happening next year ( Jan 25th ) along a few of our favourite routes Terry. Even has Cornishman's Hill I think! Interested? Modbury to Tanunda, and then back to home - about 180km I reckon. Interested? We could go out one Sunday and check out the route to make sure it's to our liking LOL.
Comment by terry heney on June 29, 2012 at 19:57 Wasn't it raining and foggy the last time we rode this route ? I'm sure it was and if I am correct Carlton road not pleasant coming into Gawler township..Slippery as hell
Comment by terry heney on June 29, 2012 at 19:52 @John Mills...Good luck driving through mud John...Hoping for you guys the rain hasn't made a mess up there..Catch you when your back mate. Enjoy the break as I know you need it :)
Will probably end up packing old Patrol tomorrow morning, for a trip up to Innaminka and/or Birdsville. Was thinking of taking the mountain bike, but on second thoughts it would just get filled with dust sitting back there on the carrier. Or the corrugations might shake the bike and carrier to pieces! Might not be back by next Saturday either. So hopefully see you all the week after that. Am missing the GW expereince. That will be four weeks now. Not good. But at least we have Frank's great reports and pics to catch up on what we missed. Yes, Good luck with the weather!
Comment by Peter Bond on June 29, 2012 at 15:06 sorry for me :-( cant make it. Best route of GW rides and im sick.

Comment by Barry Norsworthy on June 29, 2012 at 9:47 Got caught in the hail this morning at top of the Grove Way. Only stung a little bit !!!!. :-) Front light hinge came off !!!
Fantastic views over the the plains as coming down the Grove Way. Was the riding worth the cold and hail. YES !!!!!
Comment by Carl Neadley on June 29, 2012 at 6:59 The 3-hourly weather forecast currently seems to suggest we may get away with it yet again - maybe a bit of light rain around Williamstown ?
i would if i could Frank.. but work commitments have got me snowed under for a few saturdays :(
Comment by Frank (GW) on June 28, 2012 at 18:23 Good evening all. Ride weather forecast as at Thurs 5.00pm below fyi.
In summary slightly on the cool side and there may be a drop or two of moisture around. Layer up; rain jacket, full gloves and boot covers etc may be useful. You gotta love this weather...once global warming really kicks in we may never experience it again. Enjoy it while you can! Also one our most popular and most requested routes.
Only two sleeps to go!!! C U there. All welcome.
