Ride Details: An extreme hill climbers ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.
The Gawler-One Tree Hill Rd begins the route after a short deviation through Gawler South. The entire length of the Gawler Scenic Route is ridden, until a right turn at the Humbug Scrub cross roads continues the ride through Sampson Flat along One Tree Hill Rd.
A left turn onto Seaview Rd followed by a another left turn onto Range Rd North continues the climbing through Upper Hermitage, eventually meeting up with North East Rd, which is ridden for a short distance before entering Houghton via Houghton Hollow Rd. After a short break in Houghton the route follows the Lower North East Rd south until a right turn onto Range Rd South, which returns back to Range Rd North.
The return journey to Gawler starts with Range Rd North followed by Seaview Rd and One Tree Hill Rd continuing the route onwards through Sampson Flat until a left turn onto Crosshill Rd leads to the township of One Tree Hill.
The visit to One Tree Hill is only fleeting as a right turn onto Cornishmans Hill Rd starts the climbing again, eventually reaching The Gawler-One Tree Hill Rd via a short section of Uley Rd. A left turn onto Alexander Ave begins the final downhill run into Gawler which completes the ride.

Comment by Nick on June 1, 2012 at 23:30 Me lanky? Nah, my short short legs will be getting a workout tomorrow!!
Have been a bit crook all week, so wont be playing again on Saturday. Also, i'm just not geared for the big climbs with just a 26 on the back. Need them new wheels i'm after!
Comment by Old Macdonald (Jon) on June 1, 2012 at 11:43 Got my daughter's 15th birthday party to prepare for so I can't make it, bugger! Is this the Bastard's ride. It looks like it, fricken snake gully memories. I hope that Bastard gets a flat. Not really as that would make you all wait for the lanky Bastard. Have fun NicK. I'm tinhking of you Dale, enjoy those hills big man.
Comment by Frank (GW) on June 1, 2012 at 5:13 Thats so similar to what I rode last Tuesday except I kept going through to Inglewood, Kersbrook then back via the one tree hill road to Gawler. Have a great ride, cant make it as doing another Audax ride.
Comment by Pete (repeats ?) Roberts on May 30, 2012 at 19:22 LOL, You need help alright...
Sorry, I cant do maths....havent ridden very much at all since may 5th....which was that devastating Tour de clare ride, took me 5 days to get over the illness that i had provoked during the ride. So thats.....holy SHHHHHHHHHamm-wow....25 days. I need help!!! And GWs is my medicine!
This is definently going to be EXTREME, as for i havent ridden a bike for 15 days(as of today) not sure why ive been off the bike...not hurt or injured, bike is ok and working, not un-beligian like..ie. can take the weather, just not 'feeling it' lately. Will do this though, fingers crossed. Also, is the Knicks in yet?

Well Craig, I just read Darren's report about your ride. Great stuff GWs! Well done! But I saw the 10% figures for a couple of those climbs that you did, and thought I would use the Brytonsport planning page to see how Snake Gully compares. The whole climb is about 1km long. All quite steep. But no wonder I was struggling near the top - the last 130 metres I caluclated at 20% gradient. Another section of 240 metres was 13.5%, and another of 80 metres in length had a 15% gradient. The rest was much easier, I suppose, 'only' around 10%! I didn't do the average gradient calculation for the whole 1km.
On the other side of the gully, on the way home, the bit that finally beat me was the last 200 metres before the sharp left turn. I calculated that at only 10.9%. So how I managed the 20% climb is a mystery. It certainly was a slow grind, and I must admit I dismounted about 20 metres before the actual 180 degree left hand turn. It would have been impossible because the very edge of the road there had what must have been a 30 to 40% gradient, if not more, over the actual 3 or 4 metres of the bend! No point in falling off the bike there, and getting squashed by a car coming up from behind!
