Ride Details
A hill climbers ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.

After leaving Gawler, the climbing starts almost immediately with the steady rise of Sunnyside Drive followed by Alexander Ave with its multiple steep gradients. From the top of Alexander Ave, the Gawler-One Tree Hill Rd provides a few fast/slow undulations before the downhill run to the Humbug Scrub crossroads.

The long steady climb of the One Tree Hill-Kersbrook Rd takes the rider up and over the 500m peak above Mt Crawford Forest followed by the fast descent into Kersbrook. The ride continues on towards Williamstown via Little South Para Rd for a short distance before the climbing starts again at Hill Rd.

After Hill Rd the route plateaus along Norsworthy and Forreston Rds before the fast downhill run into Williamstown via Warren Rd, passing Warren Reservoir along the way.

The return ride to Gawler leaves Williamstown and follows Balmoral Rd then Calton Rd before the final downhill run to Gawler.

Well, missed out on business time - unfortunately had a 9am appointment I forgot about until last night.  Concert was good though!

For someone warm blooded and upright it might not be a good idea either. So I might just go back to a horizontal position. Or I may not . . .

Getting ready for the ride.........weather forecast not good...........for someone recovering from a dose of "the snots" it may not be wise to play in the cold and wet today.............but who's wise......?

Might have a mate, Rod(ney),  from the swimming club, come out tomorrow with a bit of luck. He is keen to do the hills ride with us. But I think if it is raining when he looks out the window in the morning he might change his mind! He has taken up biking again not long ago and likes going up into the hills. So if he comes he shouldn't have any problems. I might have trouble keeping up with him!

Off to see the Flight of the Conchords concert tonight - if I don't make the ride I will have "hurt feelings"...

Sorry not attempting this ride.. Thought throwing mud against a wind might get me a bit messy lol

Always nice to get out and into a comfy bed at home hey.

Yeah, it s bit of a worry with things like blood clots. I think that's what strokes are about. If there is any chance of there still being a clot floating about inb the system it would be wise to let those pills do their job and make sure they are all dissolved before exerting yourself too much.

Now, on a more serious note, if either of us want to improve much further with our biking, I need to kick my junk food habit, and I think you know what you need to do to. Or at least we can cut back a bit. Easier said than done I know!

Anyhow, you have done a couple test runs for me and given me a bit of an idea what it's like up 'Hospital Road'. Thanks for that. Now am I up to the challenge? Hmmm?

@John..Thanks for that full description...Perhaps this might be a bit hard for me at this stage.. Would be ok a few weeks ago to tackle it but yer me thinks I should leave this route for later in the year...But never know how I might be feeling come this Saturday :) Home now resting up.. quacks not 100% if I had a very verryyy small stroke but they taking precautions (cover their arses) and now cant drive a car for 4 weeks ggggrrrr which stuffs me up for work... Anyhow I feel fine just tired from no bloody sleep at hospital.Funny hey how in hospital for care and rest but geezuuuusssssss what REST ???  Hate the bloody joints LMAO...

Hi Terry. Sounds like you are feeling a lot better judging by these queries. Not sure whether I would be so keen myself after all you have been through!

Doug came around the ride with me on Wednesday. And he has done the route from Gawler up to One Tree Hill on his bike. He tells me that the first part has a pretty steep section just coming out of Gawler, maybe about 300 metres long if I remember from driving it, where you need to stand on the pedals. Then as you probably know, its a long slog, a bit like Anstey's, up to the crossroads at the back of One Tree Hill. But maybe about three times longer than Ansteys, and with a few little flat sections to ease the pain.

Then there is a pretty steep climb just after that cross roads. I have always managed it, on the old steely, without standing on the pedals, becaue it is about the same as the steepest part of Anstey's. But a lot longer than the steepest part of Anstey's - maybe 700 or 800 metres.

After that the long climb to the top of the mountain. A couple of little downers just after the first big climb, but the last km or so has a real sting to it.

And then the last challenge, if you are getting bored with it all, is Hill Road. We found that not as bad as we thoughht it might be. Very scenic, to take your mind off the work load. Just steadily ground my way up. Another fellow called Doug, in the Star Cycles group, described as a 'climb of 5 hills'. And although I could only remember the one big climb, sure enough, if you count them from the very start of Hill Road, there are in fact five hills. But the main one is the long one - #3. It has a small section near the top where I had to get up on the pedals to see it out - maybe about 100 metres worth.

And after that its just a nice ride home.

Must admit though my legs are still a bit sore from Wednesday's effort. But should be OK for tomorrow. But the rain? Hmmm?
