Ride Details An extreme hill climbers ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.
After leaving Gawler, the climbing starts almost immediately with the steady rise of Sunnyside Drive followed by Alexander Avenuewith its multiple steep gradients. From the top of Alexander Ave, the Gawler-One Tree Hill Road provides a few fast/slow undulations before the downhill run to the Humbug Scrub crossroads.
A left turn onto Humbug Scrub Rd leads uphill, past the entrance of the Para Wirra Recreation Park, to a left turn at Bassnet Rd which is ridden until another turnaround point is reached. The return ride continues along Bassnet Rd, back past Humbug Scrub Rd, where a 3.2 km section of unsealedroad needs to be negotiated until the familiar One Tree Hill-Kerbrook Rd is reached.
The long steady climb of the One Tree Hill-Kersbrook Road takes the rider up and over the 500m peak above Mt Crawford Forest followed by the fast descent into Kersbrook. From Kersbrook to Williamstown the road undulates just enough to keep the legs pushing and spinning, making the scheduled break in Williamstown all the more deserved.
Leaving Williamstown via Yettie Rd, the route then continues onto Balmoral Rd and Calton Rd before the final downhill run to Gawler.
IMPORTANT
The Gawler Wheelers Group Ride Guidelines and Group Ride Recommendations must be read prior to attending a Group Ride Event.
