Wednesday for a 6am rollout at the Tower Hotel
Ride to NS and on to Mt Lofty summit or Marble Hill or return as you want.
Mid week hump day recovery ride. No Strava segments will be beaten. Suits Norton Summit climbers (5.6kms) of 22 - 26mins.
Embrace winter! Learn to love the AM and have a glow of smugness for the rest of the day (while your feel thaw out) from your early morning achievement (getting out of bed) and for what you enjoyed - sunrise, koalas and your bike.
Must be up for a chat and have good lights.
This is planned to be weekly. In time drop your name in if you will be there. It just gives you more motivation when you know someone will be there waiting.
Please note this is not an organised ride, you should have insurance and this site and organiser accepts no responsibility for damage, injury or other.

Comment by Gus K on May 16, 2012 at 22:05 Cool. 2 upsides.. today was about as cold as it gets and from next month it gets lighter and lighter so by September it's nearly full daylight when you leave home.
It's all about motivation knowing someone else is there. Of course if you want to ride other mornings there is same place at 0550 Friday and bottom of the Freeway at 6am on Tuesday... all equally as a cold and mad.
Comment by Smudge on May 16, 2012 at 22:00 Cheers Gus, great way to start the day, even tho it was a little fresh! Looks like we'll be making this a regular ride on our calendar, was so much better riding that time of day when it starts getting lighter as we ride, and much less traffic about.
Comment by Gus K on May 16, 2012 at 11:11 Thanks for coming out everyone. As I said last week it is selfishly all about me and motivation to get up and ride so if I know there is someone waiting for me then I have to go. You are welcome to copy this selfishness for your own good.
It was cold - a reported 5c with other reports going down to 4. The climb was it's usual 5.6kms and the new day just greeting us over the hills around the last bend near the waterfall a reminder of what's it's all about. Some went on to Lofty, some returned back down NS Rd and the last 6 continued on to Marble Hill and the Montacute Rd descent. Katie and I rolled along at the top taking our time, sharing a spare tube for her security to get out to Birdwood and commenting on how good the low valley clouds were and the sun touching the tops of the hills on the Norton Summit side... so if you were wondering where I got to I was just taking a moment to breath it in...
see you next week (or this Sunday!)
I will create a group for this called WOMGiE (Wednesday OhMyGod it's Early) and you can toss your RSVPs as a comment in there instead of an event every week just like CFFRS or TMMLM if you are looking for other pre-dawn rides.
Cheers!
Extreme Alarm Clock FAIL! Set the time but didn't turn it on, woke up at 6.30, bah. Disappointed I missed what sounds like a nice ride.
Comment by Tim B on May 16, 2012 at 9:49 That was fun. Thanks Gus, good to meet a few of the fellow AC members.
How good did the fog look hanging in the valleys just east of the Marble Hill - Corkscrew section
Great turn out and good to meet some new riders.
After I pulled off at Woodshill Road for my Lofty ascent, a huge truck passed within cm's of my handlebar. Wouldn't be surprised if you'd heard my shouts from where you were. The freeway descent was great but I seem to have windburn on my stomach :\
Well done Gus in organising such a large turn up on the coldest morning since last July. Great to see a few faces Ive heard of but not yet met. Hope you all had a safe and enjoyable ride to wherever you all went. At least there was two of us who had to return and get to work ....

Comment by VOD on May 15, 2012 at 20:37 Mark and I will be there assuming no turning off of the alarm clock in the morning. The bikes are prepped and ready to roll, just need to get ourselves into the same state!
