Hi Andrew, Ouch about your arm - how did you manage to break it so impressively?.  It would be awesome to see you for your maiden roadie-ride on Saturday.

Regarding your arm though, none of us can give you a medical opinnion of course, so do listen to what your doctor / surgeon have told you about the necessary recovery time.  I know it's boring as heck sitting around waiting to recover, but if the risk for further damage is too high, please look after yourself.  We do everything we can to keep GW rides as safe as possible for everyone who attends but accidents can happen and I'd hate for even a bumpy road to put your recovery back even one week more than it needs.  I hope you're able to ride, but only you and your doctor can say for sure - screws and metal plates is not minor surgery and if the bone hasn't strengthened properly around the screws, you risk damaging that bone further and being left in a far worse situation (which, at the vey least, means LOTS more boring hours at home).

If you do decide you can't ride, feel free to come out to Jaspers at around 10 / 10.30am to meet everyone for an iced coffee and at least get out of the house a bit.  It would be great to meet you and if / when your arm is up for it, having you on the rides will be awesome.  (I agree with you - you'll be fine riding that distance, it's just the arm that poses a concern)

i would be pretty angry at myself if i couldnt ride that far. im only 22 so if i cant do the distance there is a major problem. are the roads fairly smooth? i think the vibration and hitting any big bumps would be the only problem. ill go for a little ride this arvo and see if my arm handles it. thanks frank

Hi Andrew. It is one of our easier rides mate as it is all flat. However it is a 56km ride so it really depends on whether you think you can ride that distance if you have not been on the bike for a while?? If you hade ridden say 25-40 km distances over the last couple of weeks you would be able to do this ride without too many worries. Would love to see you there but my gut feel is that if you have been off the bike for 5 weeks then 0-56kms for your first road ride might be a bit much? Your thoughts?

im in two mids about coming. its my fitst ever ride on a road bike and 5 weeks ago i smashed my arm to pieces. (27 screws and 2 plates to hold it together). but im getting bored of sitting at home not riding. i might need a bit of help with bike set up. i think its fairly close but to be perfectly honest i have very little knowledge on the subject. help me make up my mind please :)
