Ride Details
A hill climbers ride starting in Gawler and finishing in Gawler.
After leaving Gawler, the climbing starts almost immediately with the steady rise of Sunnyside Drive followed by Alexander Ave, with its multiple steep gradients. From the top of Alexander Ave, the Gawler-One Tree Hill Rd provides a few fast/slow undulations until a left turn into Toolunga Rd is then ridden downhill to the turnaround point. The return journey is all uphill leading back to the Gawler-One Tree Hill Rd where a left turn continues the route towards the Humbug Scrub crossroads.
A left turn onto Humbug Scrub Rd leads uphill, past the entrance of the Para Wirra Recreation Park, to a left turn at Bassnet Rd which is ridden until another turnaround point is reached. The return ride continues along Bassnet Rd, back past Humbug Scrub Rd, where a 3.2 km section of unsealed road needs to be negotiated until the familiar One Tree Hill-Kerbrook Rd is reached.
The return leg to Gawler is via the One Tree Hill-Kerbrook Rd followed by the Gawler-One Tree Hill Rd until a left turn at Medlow Rd leads to the Main North Road, which is ridden for a short distance until a left turn at Dalkeith Rd links up with Coventry Rd and the final run into Gawler.
IMPORTANT
The Gawler Wheelers Group Ride Guidelines and Group Ride Recommendations must be read prior to attending a Group Ride Event.

Comment by Paul P on December 4, 2011 at 20:34 Dean,
No this route does a U turn at the South Para river and then joins up to Kersbrook road for the return trip.
The route you describe would be a good ride, back via Bassnet, Para Wirra, and then Yetti roads back to Sandy Creek. Maybe Frank / Wilson discounted this one for some reason.
Looking forward to the ride, may have to use the Goose for this one..
Comment by Dean Malden on December 4, 2011 at 19:03 Gee this one sounds like a bit of a TDF, no cobble stones but the dirt roads.
Is this Dirt road at the top of a little climb after a decent in and through a creek.
we found this road end into dirt and must have taken the wrong turn as we wnated to head back to Kerbrook, but we ended up by the whispering wall. Road condition seamed reasonable.
