100KM / 60KM / 30KM / 25KM ADELAIDE TO MCLAREN VALE ALONG THE SOUTHERN EXPRESSWAY

Despite forecast temperatures in the mid-30's, over 3000 riders turned out to support the Amy Gillett Foundation and Bicycle SA at Amy's Ride 2009.

And what a spectacular sight it was as the sea of cyclists, all wearing the distinctive new Amy's Ride "A Metre Matters" jersey's, made their way under the Red Bull start line arch at Flinders University and onto the Southern Expressway........

I have emailed Bike SA about possible detour from one section along the Esplanade in Aldinga Beach and another section along Norman road Aldinga Beach - both have roadworks and heavy machinery. Bike SA has responded

We are aware of the current road works issues along the route as you have described below. We are waiting for confirmation from Onkaparinga Council as to the status of progress and will advise accordingly if we are required to alter the route on the day.Rest assured that any detours from the published route will be clearly signed posted with our usual RED arrows

Don... yes. Western side of University drive just south of the traffic lights.

good idea, Wombat.
when you say right hand side, do you mean as you head south (away from sturt rd)?

So should I just suggest one? Ok... I will.

Anyone who wants to meet up pre-ride, I will be at the bus stop just off Sturt Rd on the right hand side from around 8ish. That is the bus stop just past the traffic lights on University Dr and on the r/h side of the road as you pass those lights.

At this stage I will be riding single speeded so on the Blue Southcott. Look out for me and say hi.

There is a starting arch at the entrance to the uni, just off Sturt road. They close off part of the road into the uni, so everybody groups up behind the start line. Last year, they tried to get people to line up based on the average speed they thought they were going to achieve......didn't really achieve much though. Most people wanted to get as close to the front as possible!
In terms of a group meeting point, good idea! Nothing has been suggested as of yet that I have heard of.

Wombat - you cant miss the inflatable looking arch at the starting point.

I have been looking at the BikeSA website for an exact meeting point. Now, I know that I am not going to miss 4000 other cyclists all gathering, but where at the Uni is the start point?

Also, is there an arranged meet point for CVSA or Adelaide Cyclists that anyone has talked about?

@Darren Will see how I go mate, might catch you along the way. Early start means I guess I'll be leaving Parafield Gardens about 7:00am. I like your idea of heading Anzac & Marion, I normally just trundle all the way down South til I get to Flinders.

@Dean Nice goal mate. Just check your legs after your 60km, cos there are some climbs on the way home that you need to be aware of!
