Event Description

Amy's Ride SA is one of South Australia's largest community bike rides. Amy's Ride SA is for riders of all ages and abilities, and over 3,000 participants take part annually in this iconic ride from Adelaide to McLaren Vale, one of Australia's leading wine regions. It's all about fun and safety with new opportunities to test your fitness. Get involved to:

- Set and strive to exceed your own personal challenge. This year timed sections on the Southern Expressway and up Old Willunga Hill will have you riding
against your own clock!

- Ride the Southern Expressway, exclusively closed for the event - one of two new timed sections!

- Fundraise to support the vital work of the Amy Gillett Foundation in SA - bike rider safety to help us all

- Support Bicycle SA's road safety campaigns in SA
- Enjoy a family-friendly and fully supported community bike ride

There are five new exciting elements to this year's event:

1) Get timed along the Southern Expressway and up Old Willunga Hill. Everyone riding 30km/65km/100km/120km will have an electronic tag that will calculate your riding time along these two legs, so you can set yourself a target and compare your times with others. Results will be posted at the finish and on the website. Amy's Ride SA is a fun recreational ride, but knowing your time is a great way to challenge yourself (and set yourself a benchmark for next year!)
2) A new 120km distance - the 'Grande' - which takes riders up Old Willunga Hill twice. Yes, if you want to test yourself like the professionals, you can double up on our biggest challenge ever
3) 18km Family Shiraz Trail ride option between McLaren Vale and Willunga, perfect for families
4) Onkaparinga residents can ride for free the 18km Shiraz Trail loop - fully supported, including refreshments
5) A fresh new jersey design, exclusive to Amy's Ride SA 2012

Ride the time of your life at this year's Amy's Ride SA!

Will see when website updates. Wasn't out for times in that heat today, just wanted to get round. Thanks to graham and Steve for the encouragement today.

Mine didn't work either but to be honest I wasn't bothered. I have my Strava times.

Did anybody get sensible timing today? My previous experience with RFID tags showed orientation sensitivity and "collision" of multiple reads when taken at distance >3m, so I set my tag upon a hard surface at spirit level vertical. When I asked the geek on the computer why mine failed to read, he said "you didn't ride past the sensor" - I DID, you know!, then he said the tag wasn't on the bike properly. Typical IT person response - they cannot be wrong, you know. Otherwise, a great ride despite the heat.

I might meet the SSRC crew at the tunnels in the morning for a roll down the hill, got to go out and get some croissants for brekky so I may as well take the scenic route and check out the pre ride vibe.

We are meeting on the veloway next to the southern express way, you know the tunnel where the track to Hallett Cove meets the veloway track, about 100m north of the tunnel is a workers shed next to the veloway track, we will be meeting there.

Matt Be I live in Woodcroft, I was guessing at the 130km.  It shouldnt be too bad with only 2 real hills to climb in 130km, you will be right I am sure Matt.  I can drag you home up the C2V after if that helps?
