Event Description

Adelaide Cyclists 'cooler season' ride 5

This is the last of 5 rides to keep the legs moving over winter and this final ride is being hosted by the Gully Grinders - North East Cyclists. Thanks to Gemma for curating the ride and please be aware of their group ride guidelines.

The idea for this ride is to check out the first half of the 2013 Bupa TDU Community Challenge Ride. A reccie if you will. This is copied from their event page here.

Start/Finish: Prices Bakery

Start: Meet at car park of Prices Fresh Bakery Golden Grove cnr The Grove and Golden Way's 5125, Golden Grove (plenty of parking).

7:45am for safety briefing for 8am roll-out.

Route: Golden Grove > Kersbrook > GG. Taking in the following hills: Cornishmans, Kersbrook, Torrens Hill. 62km - Extremely Hilly!

This is the first section of the 2013 Bupa Challenge Tour ride for the TDU. This ride is being organised so people can get a feel for how challenging this ride will be and train accordingly. Follow-up rides will occur that will take in other parts of the course.

The map above is of the course and can be used to generate a .fit file to send to your garmin gizmo.

Will plan re-group spots and will have dedicated TECs that ensure no one is left behind.  The regroup spots allow everyone to go at their own pace - never pressure on the slower riders.

We will be following the guidelines outlined in the .pdf here: http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/group/gully-grinders-north-east-cyclists/page/gully-grinders-group-ride-guidelines

This is a social group ride, all are welcome to join. Please RSVP on this event page.

Group page is here: http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/group/gully-grinders-north-east-cyclists

This is an unassisted social ride. You should have your own insurance, helmet and spares.

This website does not accept any responsibility for damage, accidents, injury that may occur.

this ride would suggest it covers the 1st half of the challenge ride but in fact it would seem to cover only the 1st 35k of the 127k ride!!

@gillian, we figured we were in the area so why not! There is an escape route though, so no one need feel pressured to tackle checkers if they don't want to :-)
See you all Sunday

In answer to Colin's question, it does appear that Checkers is an option on this ride. For those who have just had kittens - BUPA 2013 does not go up Checkers, but the profile diagram indicates a KOM half way down mountain - yeeehaaa!!

FOR SALE: 5 kittens....

Thought long and hard about this one. My 30km to and from the start will make it my longest ride since I was 16 and rode London to Brighton and back in one sitting.

That said, I had a teaspoon of cement and figured what the hell. See you there bright and early.

I have to say I can't ride this on Sunday. Originally when I picked the dates a long time ago this weekend fit snugly between LiveStrong, GS and Amy's Rides but I didn't know about a camping commitment with my son at the scouts Hoporee which I know a lot of other parents are also attending.

So Gemma and the Gully Grinders kindly accepted all the extra riders and curated a ride route so between this event and theirs all the info will be out there.

It's a great chance to ride some different roads and experience a bit of the BUPA route.

Have fun, ride safe.

Please find a colour coded map here that displays potential re-group spots and potential escape routes should anyone wish to avoid one or more of the nasty lumpy bits.
